I'm in the process of doing that (headed to the parts store to pick up a cable lubricator this afternoon).

**EDIT**

Completed the adjustment / cable lube. 4th / 5th gear don't feel like they're slipping any more and the clutch is more responsive in grip, though the clutch level still feels pretty much the same with how far the pull is till the clutch engages / dis-engages (before I noticed the slipping that is). Guess it is the normal activity of the clutch.

Kudos to you Ironman for the info. My shop manual says NOTHING about that adjustment on the clutch release module. I apparently have stuck clutch plates (my no-go C50T Argh post) but now I have one less thing to troubleshoot.

Thank you and keep it out of the ditches !

Thank you very much! I decided to adjust this before my first ride of a new-to-me bike. When I got to the adjustment screw, I carefully moved the screwdriver around four times to loosen. Then, I reversed the turning...and the screw went in about 8 or 9 full rotations! I couldn't believe it. I finally felt the resistance and wondered how things were. I backed it off and to the resistance a couple of times then followed the rest of the instructions. While I have no comparison to the before, the after is working great.

Time to do it for my first attempt ~30 minutes.

quick question...so I replaced my clutch springs and plates...having to remove exhaust pipes, covers etc...did the job with ease...replaced everything, filled back up with oil...adjusted cable etc...then took for ride...runs nice...but...
I had not noticed this before but now I hear a slight sound occasionally while in gear going down street...it sounds like keys jingling...it is coming from the same side of the clutch basket...I can't make out exactly where because its not constant...I have double checked all bolts and nothing is loose, no rattling due to vibration...I can not figure out what it is but since I had just done clutch, I am concerned I didn't do something right or didnt tighten springs enough or left my watch in the clutch assembly....
Does anyone have any clue what that noise might be...right side middle bike sounds like keys and is not contant...thanks

I had a slight slip that I noticed starting on the 03 vl800 I'm working on. Took all the side covers off and followed your advice. Cleaned and lubed any and everything---even washed out grime that had been hidden under half the bike.
Test drove after adjustment and later made a further tweak. Test drove again and discovered everything remarkably smooth, with no slip at all. Major difference in shifting resistance and noise. Buttoned it back up--good to go!

I know this thread is old... just call me the thread necromancer.... how the hell do i got the middle cover off to make the adjustment thats under it? I took out the 2 bolts on the cover, is there another one I am missing?
