Hi.

I am new to forum. Just picked up my '05 C50 on Friday. It is stock with no add-ons. One of the first things I want to add is saddlebags for storage. What is the maximum size I can go without rubbing the tailpipes? I saw one post that mentioned his clearance was 13 inches. Is that correct for stock pipes?

Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the VR forum new member!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It all depends on style, and how you plan to mount them. For throwover saddlebags, you really dont want to go with more than a 12" high bag. If you are going to hard mount the bags, you could possibly go to 13" and mount them higher.

They will most likely be the throw over style. I like that look.

Also, would you recommend saddlebag supports?

Thanks

Hello and Welcome from Minnesota.

A clearance of 13" would have to be a typo. They may have meant 1 to 3 inches of clearance.

I have a cheap pair of saddlebags now that clear my stock exhaust by about 1 inch. So far no problems.

Dittos on using the saddlebag supports. Keeps the bags from contacting your wheel. I made my own, but you can find them on eBay and at lots of online retailers.

Good Luck and enjoy your bike!

With something like EasyBrackets or Ghost Brackets, you can do much bigger bags, and mount them at the height and/or depth that works for you.

I use easybrackets and have xJumbo Saddlemen bags, which most everyone thinks are enormous. But I like the size, the way I mounted them to match the rear fender, and the symmetry the give with my stock pipes. I couldn't do it if I kept them as throwovers, though.
