Kenda K671 cruiser tires?

Hi everyone. Recently purchased an 04 Volusia. Tires are the originals, they look brand new but I don't trust them. Previous owner didn't use the bike much. I'm thinking of buying the Kenda K671 cruiser ST tires for it. Does anyone have any experience with these? It says that they aren't for high capicity bikes but the guy at the counter didn't have a better description than that.

Ps.. I'm not in a position to spend $350 on a set of metzelers...

Kenda has a good name, but you pay for what you get. if you where ordering golf cart tires I'd say go for it, but your strapping these on a bike so they are unforgiving so I say better to put out the put down.

If You're cash-strapped, Kenda Cruiser K671 tires are an excellent choice.
They won't last as long as Pirellis or Metzlers, but great tires, none_the_less.

Lots of VR members buy those Kenda 671 Tires, and, (quite frankly), that's the first time I've heard anything about high load capacity, regarding the VL800 series machine and tires.

tires one man's opinion

9 yr old tires are NOT SAFE, no matter how good they look. There is a box on the sidewall that lists the week & month of manufacture. Never buy NEW tires more than 2 yrs old, (& thats a stretch!). I have a KENDA 675 Challenger on one of my bikes, & its a good tire at a bargain $. The 671 I don't know about. In the AMA mag. during the winter, A business that rents bikes swears by the Shinko 777 tires ( avail. in black or white), as a cost effective replacement. Depending on how much you ride & your financial situation, the Shinko will need to be replaced every 2-3 yrs. Not a high milage tire, but performance is good wet & dry during the life of the tread. Last year when I put tires on my '03 the 777's were my first choice at <$200, but the white walls were backordered. & the bikes' tires were wasted when I bought it. The Metzler 880's are short-lived high mileage, high dollar tires. You can put all the miles possible in two years, but after that they start to "chunk". (fall apart). The Michelin Commander 2 is a great tire for the Volusia, when you can get a good "combo price". Black only. That's the tire I'm currently running on my '03. MC Superstore's combo $ for the pair was $210 last year. Try smalltires.com for the Shinko 777's. Bikebandit.com offers a 10% additional discount for AMA members.
Hope this helps .

Where is your Metzler information coming from? I've been running them for years and I can't for the life of me say they CHUNK or FALL APART. That's ridiculous information to offer a new guy about tires.

Kenda's Kruz model tires are a good "value" long lasting tire. Look on ebay for a set for a VL800 Volusia.... they can be had for $198.99 with free S&H !!!!!!

$199?!? That's at least $20 more than i paid with free shipping. Did some quick digging $176 for front and rear shipped ($75.88+7.99 for the front and $91.85 shipped free for the rear)

K673's last, And I do mean last...I get about 23,000 miles out of the rear and slightly less out of the front. They're load rated for the big bikes, but handle better and last longer than any other tire I've ever run on any of my bikes over the past 22 years. They're surprisingly sticky for being such a hard tread compound. BTW since they have such stiff sidewalls and tread they prefer to be run at lower pressure otherwise you'll wear out the center long before you wear out the rest of the tread.

+1 on the Kenda Kruz K673. They are longlasting tires with really good traction. Proof you don't have to pay top dollar to get great tires. Some folks think anything other than top dollar tires are not good but IMHO it's not true.

+1 on the Kenda Kruz. Recently ordered a set from Chaparral Motorsports for $156.76 shipped.

So after checking online I can get the kenda kruz 673's shipped to my door for around $195 for the set. So all in agreement that the 673's are superior to the 671's? I can get the 671's for $178 locally but if the 673's are a better tire then I'll go for them. Thanks for the input everyone.

I wore the Kruz out in about 12000 miles. Ended up with tread left, but riding irregularly and cupping a little bit. Nice deal, still!

I have the Kruz tires on my VOL, great wet weather tire. Are you mounting them yourself? If not, check cost to mount and balance before ordering online, you may get a better deal through the shop you are going to use to mount them. My tire guy mounts and balances for free if I buy through him, it actually works out better then me buying online and him charging $50 a tire to mount. Need new tires for my Nomad just haven't decided on which one's yet, have it narrowed done to two now.

Had the 673's on my wife's Vulcan 900. They ran for 17000 miles and were decent but they did cup pretty much and make some noise. I just replaced them with Michelin Commander II's cause they work so well on my Nomad. I had 3 sets of ME880's on my Volusia because I liked the whitewalls, but I never cared for the wet handling on that bike. The Pirelli MT66's are a great cost effective alternative to some of the others out there too.
