I just purchased a 2007 C50 (used with 3700 miles). I am a farily new rider!

I would like to purchase engine crash bars and would like to know what are the best.

I have seen that Suzki offers a set (about $109.00). These appaer extend out from the bike the least amount.

I also have seen in the various dicussions cobra crash (about $160). While not OEM the feedback I seen ststed they fit but it appaers they extend out a lot more than the OEM bars.

Last I have come across Lindby bars. These also extend out more than the OEM bars, have a unique shape, and are the most expensive.

I am looking for the best set to protech the bike should it fall over as well as me! What would all those who own C50s recommend! Is there another brand I should be looking at?

Thanks,

I think Cobras are most popular on this forum... Lindby bars have integrated foot pegs. Others are MC crashbars and HighwayHawk I belive...

I like my cobras, here is the pic:

I use the MCE Bars. Pros and cons for all of them. A lot depends on what accessories you plan on adding later. There was a set of Linby's in swap meet recently too. Picture in my gallery of bars.

Got Cobras too but like Dane said, they are not the only "right" choice. Check around and see what you like. Stay with a brand name.

I got Cobra's and like 'em. The only ones I wouldn't recommend are oem. They don't "stick out" far enough to protect anything if the bike falls.

I have the VA 1.5" Crash Bars and saved my bike a couple of weeks ago.
I forgot to put the kickstand down and I slowed the bike down and the
crash bars prevented the drop! These are 1.5" diameter where the
Cobras are 1.25" diameter.

Pic in my gallery.

The regular 1.25" sized Cobra's (not the fatty model) can be fitted with Desert Dawg's chaps. Believe me, they're warmer and drier when riding in the cold and rain. They do cost a couple of miles per gallon however.

As far as I know they don't fit other crash bars.

I have the Cobra's. They have a very pretty shape. But for the design and clearance considerations I think the MC bars are better.

If I were buying bars now I would get the 1 1/2" bars. They were not available ealier when most of the respondents bought their bars.

Ditto what PGRChaplain said.
I also like my MC Enterprise bar because of its extended horizontal protection, but the Cobra bars are more rounded and the MC bar is more rectangular in shape....to each his own!
There is one downside to the MC bar: the top of the MC bar mounts in front of the radiator. You cannot mount lowers because this bar extends so far forward that the lowers would hit the bar when turning the bike...unless one uses some human ingenuity, I guess.

If you are talking "engine guards", then the OEM bars will work. They will give some level of protection to the engine... ONLY. They will do nothing to protect YOU. Pay the extra money to buy the superior equipment for the most valuable component - YOU.

And if you want the best protection for YOU then you want the STRONGEST bars - plenty of opinions here about looks but STRENGTH is the principle criteria if PROTECTION is the consideration.

I have the Cobras on my Honda VTX 1800, but I really like the MC Enterprises on my C50 better. They are the original Harley design, very wide and structurally better for bending. Crash Bars are not for crashing, they are for keeping the bike from pitching so far over you can't pick it up.

They sure saved my leg a long time ago - bent bar and a long groove in a car body from a severe glancing blow. Sure, they won't help in a lot of crashes but I still say give yourself the best chance - buy the strong bars.

MC, Lindby, Cobra.

Pick the look and the price that works for you. Each has strong points and weak points. All do what they are designed to do.

If you wanna look different than the rest, and not in a bad way - go for the lindby's. BUT YOU"RE RIGHT..they are more money! If you have floorboards, you will have to wait another month or two until Lindby USA comes out with their bars designed for the C50 with floorboards. Otherwise, they will touch and scratch. If you plan on getting forwards for your bike, don't look at Lindby.

I'm 6'0 - and I love my Lindby's - BUT I am going to put pegs on the outskirts of them too, my legs are just too long!
