Yankee Rally 2022 will be held June 23-26, returning to the Catskill Mountains of New York.
The rally committee for 2022 consists of Mike (BearBait), Christine (Woodswoman), Chris (Sixpack), Bryon (pbryon), and Jamie (Stormrider).
We will be using a motel just a couple of miles from the one we used in 2010-11, to wit:
Red Ranch Inn
4555 NY Rt. 32
Catskill, NY 12414

The Red Ranch Inn has given us a rate of $279 for Thursday through Saturday nights for rooms with either two queen beds or two double beds. The facility has a few rooms with three beds, kitchenettes, etc., which if available could be had for slightly more money ($10 per day more for three-person rooms). Those arriving before Thursday will be extended a “rally rate” for their extra night(s). Those arriving after Thursday — ask the motel.
The motel has 40 rooms altogether, and has agreed to hold a block of 20 rooms for the VR until June 1, 2022.
Rooms are equipped with mini-fridges and hair dryers; some have microwaves. We think they also have tiny coffee makers, but we don’t guarantee that. The rooms we inspected seemed rather dated, but clean.
The property has mostly blacktopped parking, with a few areas of good, dry gravel. There is ample outside space for a campfire gathering, games, and general shenanigans. There is a full-sized swimming pool. And right next door to the Red Ranch is the popular Rip Van Winkle Brewing Company, which serves good Italian-American food as well as its own craft beers.
You should reserve your room by calling the motel, and mentioning that you are with the Volusia Riders group to get the agreed rate. It might be possible to reserve online, but you would not get the rally rate.
Note: The group that owns the Red Ranch also owns several properties in the Lake George area. Like all hospitality businesses lately, they are desperately short of help and hence are not prompt about returning phone calls, we have found. Persistence and patience are recommended. (Also, be prepared for “Indian English” on the phone.)
Reservations may be canceled for a full refund of your deposit by contacting the management no later than two (2) days before your scheduled arrival.
We expect the Rally in 2022 to take its traditional form wherein some early birds arrive Wednesday, most arrive Thursday, and a few straggle in on Friday. We plan to provide a pizza dinner Thursday night, from the Brewery next door. Group rides will be arranged on Friday and Saturday for those who are interested.
The committee will work on providing breakfast opportunities, which will most likely be similar to what was done in New Hampshire this year and in Lake George in earlier years. However, details will be announced later in one of the next few posts.
Those who do not avail themselves of the adjacent restaurant/brewery for dinners will find a variety of other offerings between 2 and 10 miles away in neighboring villages.
Fuel will be no problem; there are gas stations and convenience stores just a couple of miles down the road.
