Unfortunately this happens all over. The persons age is a big factor when it comes to sentencing. All to often it turns out the driver should have never been on the road to begin with.
One case here recently was very simular, the older driver, with past DUI's, got nothing more than loss of license, and 2months of house arrest, and 6 months probation.

Recently, a rider died down here, after someone turned left in front of him. They were ticketed with "failure to obey a road sign"

The good news is that with him being 71, losing his license for 15 years is essentially banning him from ever driving again. By the time he's eligible to get a license again, he'll be 86. Presuming he's still alive at that age, he'll be old enough that he probably won't be able to pass all of the tests to get the license.

repeated drunkin driver...maybe the previous judge should also go to jail as he is also responsible for putting this piece of garbage back out on the road...wonder what ever happened to the guy in NH who last year took out a group of riders with his tractor trailer returning from their ride. Believe he too should not have been out on the road but his suspension paperwork was sitting in some filing cubby hole in the dmv in NH...
