Howdy all?

I have owned a C50 for a little bit over a year now. It has just a bit over 7000 miles. I have read that the 7000 miles is when I need to check valves clearance and eventually make some valves adjustments.
My question is: How complicated is it to do this maintenance task? I have never done valve clearance on a C50. I have done it on a BMW and Ural bikes. Both of these bikes have boxer engine which makes this maintenance task extremely simple and easy to perform.
I have seen a couple of videos on YouTube. However I am still not sure how easy it is to do it. I have next week off and I will have plenty of time to do it. How long should I expect it to take? I have all the necessary tools.

YES it is time to ADJUST THE VALVES.

SOME people call it checking the valves but the adjustment is very important - not just checking them.

Experience and recent experience will allow you to do the job in about 2.5 hours. For the first time adjuster allow 2-3 times that long.

Keep in mind that there are two of each of the intake and exhaust valves per cylinder. They are supposed to open and close simultaneously. If one intake has 0.004” clearance and the other right beside it has 0.005” clearance the cylinder will sound like a single valve having 0.008” clearance..... the double click will amplify the sound..... same on differences between the exhaust valves.


NOTE!!! *****In the service manual there is no - or even incorrect instruction on which way to turn the crankshaft.

******Use the socket and ratchet on the generator nut as shown to turn the crankshaft COUNTERCLOCKWISE FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE..... so that the crankshaft rotates toward the front of the Bike as it comes closest to the top of the bike. If you turn the crankshaft backwards you run the risk of affecting the timing chain tensioner and timing chain lift - that is my opinion after reviewing the design and operation of those components.

No kidding! I never did the valves on my Suzuki, but I've done it on my RT.

Valve one... Perfect.
Valve two... Got it.
Valve three... Almost there.
Valve four... [email protected]! Why did valve one move?
Valve one... F##k! Seriously?! Why did valve three change?
Valve three... Son of a ****! Now two changed!

Yup. Lots of patience.
