Noticed that. That's the only real change worth having. I chunked that fake swingarm piece soon as I got my bike. Now the "fake" arm is steel...WOW!

Do you think that is a typo???? Why on eart would they not state that in the new changes. Hell  , That is a bigger modification than the swing arm changing!!!

Not bitter though. Love the Black and White. My buddy is going to get the Silver and White now. He loves my bike and sweats it fiercely!! :D

If memory serves correctly, the dry weight was previously listed as 524 or 525 pounds. It is now listed as 531 pounds so the 2,003 Volusias may indeed have steel fenders. Not that I care. I've seen some pretty amazing plastics in my work these days and they're not as susceptible to dinging and they certainly won't rust.

Yeah, the website for the 2002's said steel fenders too. Think we do a class action lawsuit for false advertising? Might bring in enough cash for a new accessory or two? :D

Hey JohnnyB, I think you have an idea there about the class action suit! I have to admit, I was not impresses with the plastic fenders when I first started looking at my silver/gray '02, but after bumping into trashcans, walls, and the occassional squirrel, I must say that plastic has advantages. e.g. No Rust and No Dings!.........bu don't get me wrong, I'd sue'em for a nice new gel seat!

I checked with the local dealer and he says it was merely a translation error. :? The web site says “2003’s have steel fenders", but in actuality what they meant to say was "2003’s still have fenders"

I don't know what the big deal is about steel fenders. Plastic won't rust or dent, and if it cracks, you can glue it back together instead of having to weld it. Plastic is lighter and can be formed into more detailed shapes. I actually prefer plastic. (Just my opinion) :D

Steel fenders

The '03 model fenders are plastic, just like all the others. Last year's brochures say "steel" also. The SUPPORTS, under the fenders ARE steel. I agree that the plastic fenders are much more "forgiving" than than steel would be. I've whanged them several times with no damage at all. Steel would have bent or dented. I like 'em.

I am very satisfied with the plastic fenders however I would like for the sides of them to be level from the front of the forks to the front tip. I have been told though that H D has a patent on that design :? If I can find someone that can modify mine (reasonable) I'm going to get them fixed.... .....
