Site Timing Out

1641 Views 11 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  SlowHandSam
Hello, all:

Here's how it goes. . . I'll be typing a reply, or composing a new thread and after it is completed, I check the "Preview Post" to make sure it looks the way I want. However, the site has timed out. We're not talking Shakespeare here. . . just a few minutes.

However, the message as written is gone when I re-log. Granted, I could compose a message in notepad ahead of time, then copy and paste, but why does the site log me out when I'm obviously online in a participatory manner?

Thanks for your attention. ~S~

SHS,

It's generally best to compose text off site, then copy & paste.

Meanwhile, I'll forward the complaint regarding the premature session canceling issue, to Vertical Scope.com.
Just the way the site is. Happens to me frequently.
Easiest remedy is to select everything you are posting and click copy (like you would to copy and paste) THEN submit. If it fails go through the login, go to where you were posting then click paste in the reply box and submit again.
Chrome saves copied selects until it closes so as long as you leave it open your copy of the post is still there to paste. I think FF does it too but it's been a while so I don't know for certain.
Just to confirm you are ticking the remember me tab and you do not have your browser set to delete cookies frequently?
"Remember me" does nothing to help the problem.

I have my browser's cache set to dump upon closing. Login details are in my compy's keyring (which has it's own password) so I can completely dump my browser's cache without losing the convenience of not having to remember login details or where I hid my emergency password printout after the last update.

The site "logs you out" without actually doing so...meaning I can open the homepage in another tab and it still shows me as logged in, but on the tab I was posting from it says you have to log in and refuses to post. Logging in results in the post being lost ("could not submit post because you logged in after submitting" or something of the sort) after following the menus accompanying the you need to log in screen.
I know nothing about a "remember me" tab. As I look at this page and others, I do not see one. Browser is set to receive and accept cookies, that's no issue. Using W-8, MSIE.
Must be the 8. I use 7 and never kicked out in 2 years.

Upper right hand corner, just below the top, at the sign in cubicle.

You may have to view this, by using another browser, ie, if You're logged on already.

Still doesn't work for me. Still shows me as logged in when it says I have to log in. even if I open the VR homepage in another tab requiring me to log out just so I can log back in paste the post and submit it again. It's funny my browser can remember the copied post but the site can't figure out that if I'm typing a post I'm obviously logged in...you don't even get an option to post if you aren't.

Probably your browser not necessarily a basic browser feature but likely some innocent sounding helper or add on feature you probably don't even know about added to your browser via something you thought you needed.

I find my browsing experience is best if every now and again I go an disable a bunch of those helpers/addons I only disable them because who knows I may actually want to enable one of them someday. About 1/2 of my Helper/addons are disabled.
Alright - the "remember me" which appears only after you completely log out and then attempt to log back in, appears to have done the trick.

Thanks for the assist!
