So, since about the early 1980's I have loved instrumental surf music. Naturally, being a younger rock and roll guy, I was a fan of the king of the surf guitar... the 115 decibel surf guitar attack of Dıck Dale.

I was very fortunate to get to talk to Dıck on a number of occasions because I used to have a side gig writing for some "scene" type magazines until I was in my 40s and just too busy for rock and roll anymore.

He hit on my cute girlfriend (later my wife) at a wine and cheese party thing in 1989, he signed my favorite guitar, he taught me how to get the E strings backwards... we had dinner a couple of times. I was so happy when I got to chat with him a few minutes the last time he was through. He was sitting down to play and I know he didn't have much road left.

Anyway, Dıck Dale is the king of surf guitar, period. RIP

Yes Bill, Richard Dale was well ahead of his time...Innovative and lots of improvisation guitar licks!! His double tapping strings to get that drums effects was cool...RIP a legend.
