Putting a 2011 C50 to the test - mega road trip

I figured the way to really get the most out of the bike was to go on a 2 month long jaunt across the country. Back roads the whole way

Started in Boston.

1st leg destination is Sioux Falls, SD for a few beers with a buddy.

The circuitos route:

  • Woodstock, NY ✅
  • Harrisburg, PA ✅
  • Philadelphia ✅
  • Pittsburgh ✅
  • Columbus, Oh
  • Lexington
  • Cincinnati
  • Indianapolis
  • Chicago
  • Tunnel of Trees, MI
  • Minneapolis
  • Sioux Falls, SD

God I love this bike

A word of advice as someone who piled a ton of touring miles on his C50 - order another clutch cable now, you will eventually need it. Also get 3 or 4 of the clutch lever return springs, they like to break at random as well.

Steve (Paraquat) did a circumnavigation of the lower 48 on his C50 back in 2019. He broke two clutch cables on the trip, including the one that he had to get replaced in Gettysburg when we had a rally there in 2015. I broke mine on the Cherohala Skyway and had the change it in a thunderstorm.

That was a long one. Started with ice on the highway bars. Brisk 38 degree ride.

Tote through the mountains of WV & Maryland. (Holy crap do that if you can)

Finished praying the deer of PA didn’t see me as prey.
Hell of a day. Almost done.
The Pennsyltucky Game Commission seems hell bent on making sure that we lead the nation in deer/vehicle accidents. Bag limits are ridiculously controlled with some areas issues fewer than 10,000 antlerless tags (that's the REAL way you get population control). But don't worry. There are two fewer deer menacing the road in Western Beaver County. I'm already out of tags and the season is only 16 days old.

so much for the all the talk about c50/s/volusia's not being able to handle a long trip...glad the troubleshooting was minimal. Welcome home.
It can handle a long trip with aplomb. Just keep it off the interstate and it is just fine.
