First meeting with our general practitioner, and first blood work since leaving the hospital is today. We will find out if her hemoglobin count is holding up. And if her white cell count is coming back up. She says she is feeling pretty good, so maybe we will get a good report,:).

Back from Doc. Said her lungs sounded good he didn't detect any fluid build up yet. Blood work will be a day or two before results are in. He had looked over her case before we got there . Said he did not see anything that they had missed. He recommended a rheumatologist to look into the possibility of lupus, or other auto immune problems. She had a couple of test in the hospital for lupus but nothing was confirmed. So basically we are right where we started from. I didn't expect much in the way of answers today. If her blood test are good, we are back to a waiting game. Pulmonologist visit is set for the 6th new X-rays will be taken at that time. Again, thanks for the thoughts and prayers!!

Ok.....Had the appointment with the pulmonary specialist today. Got some good news and some bad news. Good news first. Lungs are clear of fluids, sound good, he was pretty happy with that. He is not the heart guy, but said it appeared to him that the fluid build up behind the heart, was virtually gone. This will have to be confirmed with the heart specialist on Friday. But even to my untrained eye the X-rays looked much, much, better. Blood work had improved further. Red cell count up. White cell count down...........Now the bad news.........There is some lung damage. She is running at about 60% of her lung capacity. He thinks this will improve but there is no guarantee of that. She can function and live a normal life at that level. But It leaves her vulnerable. Additional illnesses or conditions, bronchitis for instance, could be a real problem for her. They will continue treatment with steriods for an additional 3 months . As far as the root cause of this. We still don't know. Further testing is planned. Thanks again guys, for all the thoughts and Prayers. It helped us both. More than you can know.

If you hven't heard from the heart guy yet, I would side with the pulmonologist. Fluid buildup in the lungs is often caused by buildup behind the heart. If it is pumping well, that helps keep the lungs clear.

Sorry thought I had updated this.... Heart specialist went well. Said her heart function was good, and virtually all the fluid behind the heart had dissipated. At one time they thought the heart was enlarged but it is not. Does not appear to have any long term damage that he could detect at this time. So all in all a very encouraging report. He also wants her to stay on the cortisone for 90 days.... I will say this from previous experience.... Steroids are a bandaid. They are very good at correcting short term problems. They are also good at obfuscating long term problems. But I am hopeful we will find the root cause of her illness within the next 90 days....Thanks again everyone for your thoughts and prayers. Keep them coming if you can. I just have a gut feeling, that we are not out of the woods yet.

how did friday go with the heart specialist?
