Piece that chewed up 2 stators 08 Boulevard C90

This piece was Magnetized in the stator housing for my 08 Boulevard C90, went through 2 stators before I realized it. Any help on identifying this piece?

oh that sux...wish i could offer some help on what it is...how did you find it and why wasn't it noticed after the first replacement?

No idea how a starter bushing ended up in the magneto case right off hand though...

We thought the first one was just factory faulty dint really inspect it, then when we fired up the second one it worked initially. then just quit so we inspected further

Well, who did the work to the bike? Maybe it was not the cause of the first failure and the dealer somehow got one in there because his workspace is a mess??
