I had the oportunity to support our Veterans today by participating in an organized ride called "Operation God Bless America". There are many of these schedualed around the country. Todays was from Carlisle PA to The VA Hospital in Lebanon, PA. The ride was jsut about 50 miles. There were about 4-5 hundred bikes involved...thats a couple miles of motorcycles streched out along Interstate 81! There were 5 Volusias (by my count) and three members (at least) of the VOL site. Burky, BillyPennsylvania, and Me...Skiertodd. I think I was the only VR guy there. The other 2 Volusias may have been ridden by members as well but I never did get to meet them. We left Carlisle and headed north on I-81. As we rode many folks waved, truckers honked and children stared. We exited I 81 and traveled "Cross Country" on a back road giving the South Central PA countryside something to chat about for a few weeks. ( Gosh Ethel member back when all them motorcikles came by). We turned onto US 422 Toward Lebanon and people came out to watch...they all were smiling and waving..it was really kind of cool! When we arrived at the Hospital (kind of a "campus" layout) We circled the complex waving to the vA Patients that were out to see us. We waved and honked and they waved back. We all parked and made belines to what was imoprtant to us...some to the food...most of us toward the restrooms! The women all exclaimed how nice it was that the mens room had lines! Gee I never noticed :) ! All in all it was a great ride! the weather cooperated by not giving us any liquid sunshine while the sun still hasn't come out as it was suposed to nobody got wet!I may just have to ride this one again!
