According to the manual you would have needed to disconnect the ignitor and some other connections near the battery to remove box to access the fuel pump. I suggest checking all these connections for the possible problem.

I don't think they have the tip over switch in the Volusia's. I got real familiar with the electrical system on my '03 Vol while trouble shooting my no spark problem and there isn't one. Must be something they added with the Boulys.
If the motorcycle is fuel injected it will have a bank angle "Tip Over"sensor . And it does not kill the spark it kills the power going to the fuel pump.
