Hi I have recently purchased a 2010 M50 which I love so far. First thing is it likes to roll forward when parking downhill and the kickstand doesn't stay in place well so if you weren't paying attention it would roll a few inches and drop. Next topic is a seat which is harder than you think. I have contacted all of the major manufacturers and come down to a few that make a seat at all. Anyone with an M50 have a recommendation? It has 17,000 km on it and I have no idea what has or has not been done to it. I am replacing the tires with Michelin Commander IIs and I will change the oil and shaft oil any other suggestions or tips would be much appreciated.

1: Unless you are parking on a LEVEL surface, ALWAYS leave your bike in gear. This will act as your hill hold and parking brake. Especially when facing downhill. The sidestand is designed to fold back, so there's nothing you can do to keep it from folding up when it rolls forward.

2: There are not a lot of aftermarket parts available for Suzuki cruisers. These are relatively niche bikes and what parts and accessories are out there tend to come from only a handful of vendors. The stock saddle isn't great, but not as bad as some that I have ridden on. Replacement is your preference, but the most common seems to be the Mustang saddle. I had one on my C50 and it was much better than stock. Yes, they are expensive too.

3: Before you ride the bike another meter, either DO a complete bike inspection or PAY someone to do it for you. That includes changing ALL of the fluids, replacing the front brake line & fuel lines, valve inspection, compression test, rear drive service including new drive oil and lubrication of BOTH sides of the propeller shaft (not just the end that goes into the transmission, but also removing the shaft from the drive unit and lubricating those splines.

4: Good thing that you are already thinking tires, because I was going to list that above. The Michelin Commander 2 or the Metzler ME880 are both fine choices for the bike.

5: I will answer this one preemptively: a hypercharger, fuel processor and performance pipes will only net you 4-5hp over stock. If you feel the need for more power on the highway, save your money for a different bike later on down the road.

Welcome to the Suzuki family and enjoy the new ride. Can't offer too much more than what Skrapiron has said. All good advise. I have a Mustang seat on my Volusia and it does make quite a difference. Ultimate is another brand option, but even more expensive. Might want to consider a gel pad/cover in the meantime.

Leave the bike in first gear as a parking brake.

I hear Ultimate and Saddlemen both make great aftermarket seats but I have no experience with either. I have an AirHawk seat cushion and find it makes a big difference at a much more palatable price.

Thanks for the input. I really appreciate it. That's a lot of maintenance work for a 2010 is it not? I have changed all the fluids myself and filter. The front brake isn't great so I am going to order a stainless brake line maybe that will help. I am also going to order new pads. I have no interest in aftermarket pipes or anything like that. I used to own a Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom and did all that and wondered why I wasted my money lol.

Actually, no. It is not.

The bike is 9 years old. Most of that is listed above is recommended to be done every 2 to 4 years, regardless of miles.

I would highly recommend removing the shaft from the drive unit and lubricating the splines...quite a few here have had issues only to find out when they did indeed remove the unit they found it was pretty much dry. You bought a mc almost 10 years old, unless paperwork was included to show what was done in servicing the bike over the years, that is one of the areas I would make it a point to make sure is properly lubricated. You can modify the kick stand to swing a bit more forward. If will lean over a bit more and the side stand will be a little over center. There is a bit of a nub of steel you can take some of that off and you might need to file a little out of the swing part as well. A little black paint and nobody will know you were messing with it! A dremel tool or angle grinder will make the job easier. This was the very first mod to the two C50's I owned. You can take your time and keep testing the position to get the lean and stand position you want. I would think Suzuki likely uses the same side stand on the M50 as the C50. The differences are mostly styling with these bikes.

Pick up some Moly paste 60 from a Honda dealer to lube your splines on the rear wheel and shaft drive (both ends). The usual area where people had failures was the splines in the very back end. You have to take the shaft right out of the gear unit. There is a dust seal and Snap ring to remove. There is also a spring that keeps tension outward on the shaft. I'm sure if you care to search some threads you will find exploded views and more. Not difficult if you are mechanically inclined.

I have a Saddlemen seat (bought very slightly used from a member here). I like the looks better than stock. As you can see, it has an integrated pillion. The pillion was off my bike when I bought it. The seller gave me the pillion, but not the required bracket to mount it. So the Saddlemen eliminated that problem for me. I'm not sure it is any more comfortable than stock. I'm good up until about 2 hours. For a long trip recently I used an Airhawk cushion. That worked quite well for me up 6 hours. Not the most aesthetically pleasing, but I could remove and install it without removing the seat, so no big deal.
