New to me ‘03 Volusia 800. What now?

I just picked up a 2003 Volusia Intruder 800. The bike is in pretty good running condition, with the exception of a high idle and a very faint smell of gas fumes. It has 31,000 miles on it and the previous owner had only changed the oil since they had owned it for less than a year, not knowing any history on it should I change all the fluids? And mainly how do I get the idle down on it? Thanks in advance.

The bike is supposed to idle at 1100rpm. You will stall the motor if you try to get that Harley lope..

Welcome from Kennesaw GA!

No idea on the idle, but I would probably go ahead and change all fluids and do a good inspection on everything. The fuel smell may be that it's running rich and you may need to check the carb.
You can turn down the idle easily with the idle screw on the carb. Is the choke pull left out? Do you have the owners manual?

If you really do not know the history of the maintenance records, start fresh. Coolant, Oil, (never over fill oil).
The fumes could be that its running to high. I had that issue but fixed it with a cheap tachometer and the idle screw.
