New site look and software upgrade Feedback Thread

Hello Everyone,

We're proud to announce that the new site look and feel has been completed for VolusiaRiders.com! Our designers and software engineers have been hard at work on this for several months. It's designed to modernize the site, make it easier to use, and to make it more attractive to new members and guests that visit .

The forum software we use, vBulletin, by default is not designed to be friendly to the eyes or to look modern. We went down to the nuts and bolts of the forum software and templates, and have done a ground up approach. There are several things you will notice now that the new design is live.

1) The site should be significantly faster.

We have applied every modern technique to speed up page load and tested with all modern browsers. We want the forum to be extremely fast and easy to use.

2) The site will work much better in mobile and tablet views

We've started applying responsive design, and have designed and tested against android and iPhone devices, Android tablets, and iPads. If you are sitting at your desk or on your couch, or just on your phone, the site will work much better than it did before, and load fast. We are still working on improving the experience even further in the months to come, but we wanted to launch this as quickly as we could.

3) The homepage is bright, crisp and clean.

We wanted the first page users saw to look beautiful, so that when a new guest arrives and is debating whether to join VolusiaRiders.com, they see a beautiful doorway, and they walk right in.

As a forum member you can choose to use the new design (which is on by default) or you can go back to the old design. We ask that you give it a chance and see if you like it. Like anything new, it will be unfamiliar at first, but we suspect that the speed difference will make you want to use this new one. If you do decide to switch back, the link is at the bottom left of each forum page, you pull down and select the theme called "VolusiaRiders Classic or Classic Dark".

4) Garages will be featured on the site

You can show off your Volusia, You can post pictures in your garage and share it with others. Make sure you post up some images to share with the community at the link below.

http://www.volusiariders.com/garage.php?do=editgarage

5) Users will be able to register with Facebook, Twitter or Google+

6) The side bar can be hidden in your user options.

Click on my profile / user cp at the top right.

- click on edit your details on the left.
- Look for Show Sidebar on Forum Pages under Additional Information.
- Click disable and save.

7) Another new great feature is the @Mention user plugin. You can tag members by simply using the @ symbol.

8) Drag and Drop image uploader

We hope you enjoy it, and if you have any questions on the design, please let us know, feedback is appreciated.

If there are any issues you see. Post them up here and we will get them worked out.

Thanks,
-Your VolusiaRiders.com Team.

In addition it's extremely frustrating that whenever you go to a thread it immediately goes to the top not the most recent that you've requested and you have to scroll back down every single time it does this and it won't stay on the post you're looking at because it's always trying to scroll back to the top
Did you download Motorcycle.com and try that yet?

Go to Play Store on your Android and get it.
sure wish that if would work well on my droid, sadly it still stinks :( still can't switch over to the classic view or any other for that matter, I'm still stuck on full view and on Android this is terrible.

Edit, I accidentally think I figured out part of the problem, when I have the phone turn vertical as it normally is for most people is when I'm having problems seeing only half the page and things all squished together weird but when I just accidentally turned my phone sideways into landscape mode I was able to see everything just fine. hope this helps the tech guru figure out what the issue is, if you need me to send a screen grab I can do that
screen grabs from trying to post back to the user Beezer,

Hey Crashtest,

The screenshots you posted, this is the issue you mentioned in the post I quoted?

The desktop version of the site is quite large for the mobile device. Have you tried using the mobile version of the site or the Motorcycle.com app?

I'm having trouble figuring out if I'm able to switch or if I'm still stuck on full version because of the issues with half a screen, it being squished together and constantly scrolling on me and not staying in one place it makes nearly impossible to tell what's going on before the upgrade this place was awesome and had no issues logging in to the full site from my mobile device now it's just a nightmare I wish I could wake up from. no I haven't logged in to the mobile version yet I don't think but like I said I can't tell is there seem to be some issues switching back and forth and I haven't tried the motorcycle.com app yet,
In the time it took you to type all that ^ you could have downloaded the app and been online.

Jeff, as you know the new way that thumbnails are displayed is in a new "Layer", and that works well. But, if you click on the image,on the layer, it will replace the existing page you are on with the image you requested, like the old way.
Hitting back at that point will still take you back to where you entered the thread, not the post you were on when you clicked the thumbnail, still having to scroll up or down to find out where you were at.
As long as other platforms are preforming the same, really a minor thing now as the new layer works great with no need to leave the post you are on.
Having the ability to scroll through multiple images from the post was a nice touch as well.

Overall, getting used to the new site appearance but have noticed a problem. Periodically when I try to click onto the "Thanks" button at the bottom of a post, this page pops-up instead: "RellaLou, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:....blah, blah, blah........." I return to the post and attempt it again, usually with the same result. Not trying to access anything, just trying to extend a "Thanks"!

On the bright side, my sign-ins are a lot more prompt and consistent. I used to have to repeat the sign-in process at least once to actually get into the site.

Is this occurring all the time or can you thank the same post after waiting a bit?

Once I get that message, I can count on it not working upon future tries. Yet, I can go and "thank" the next post I read without any trouble... weird.
