Hey guys! I've been on a search for some low profile half helmets.. I've heard great things about Crazy Al's, on Bikerhelmets(dot)com but I've had no luck for over a week in my size cause they are sold out.. I was wondering if you guys have any good recommendations, cause I really don't want a mushroom head, and I really don't wanna buy a helmet from Amazon.. Thanks in advance!

I have a Bell Pis Boss. It has an adjustable inner strap and a removable neck curtain that covers ears and a drop down sun shield. Works pretty good in spring, summer and autumn. It is more of a Polo style than half helmet.

The low profile helmets are a novelty item only. They won't do a thing to protect your head in the event of a crash.

I do know there are some that are DOT approved, so yeah some are novelty but some arent! Im looking for some dot ones
No, they are not. DOT testing is done by the manufacturer and the results submitted to the DOT for approval. When the government did some compliance testing, they found that the data supplied for approval was fraudulent and the certificate was revoked.

A helmet works by momentarily decelerating your head and allowing your brain to slow enough to prevent traumatic brain injury. Thin helmets do not provide any impact protection at all.

Besides, this isn't a fashion show.

I bought a half helmet and tried riding in it. It was a miserable experience and I have no idea how people do it. I got hit in the face by bugs, wind dried out my eyes, and the noise in my ears was excruciating. My Shuberth modular has been one of the best investments I've made into motorcycle gear.

My modular has served me well, but it is way overdo for a replacement. I have been interested in a half helmet, but thanks for the information on that experience Whiskey.

I have a Daytona half that I bought at a Harley dealer some years ago. It lives in my saddle bag and comes out when we are doing stop and go, slow speed riding. On the road, I'm in my Shoei Neotec modular. Love that helmet.

That looks perfect for Dennis but he must keep the face shield DOWN. 🤣🤣🤣

Bugs are tasty, you should open your mouth a bit for best effect. Also, motorcycle specific (ie with some foam around the inside of the frame) (sun)glasses are a must to cut down the wind.

Of course ~61% of impacts to motorcyclists heads occur in the areas missing from a half helmet, with the lower jaw accounting for a majority of those. (source: Otte helmet study)

Ebay has dozens of them.....remember though DOT means absolutely nothing...anyone can buy DOT stickers and slap them on a helmet....and the USA Department of Transportation does not test the helmets.....DOT is a self certification process....helmet companies send in paperwork stating, yes, it meets the standards and boom....DOT certified....

I have the Crazy Al's helmet. I leave it in my saddle bag in case I cross the border accidentally (ride with DC and you'd see how often that is...)
It's easy on, easy off. I keep it clipped to my thigh or it rides on the tank without blowing off.
I passed California highway patrol cruisers and by the time they caught up I was able to one handed secure it to my head. I have it down where I don't even have to slow down at the state line anymore.
It gets my vote.

Modular or full face helmets are kinda like seat belts. When first mandated I hated seat belts too. Wifey and I wore half or 3/4 helmets for several years until a deer knocked us off the bike in 07. She hit the ground and lost front teeth along with other injuries. It's full face for her now, modular for me. A couple years later I was knocked off the bike by a pickup, the front of my helmet was destroyed, and I was glad it was a modular then, not just a half helmet. I'm an advocate for people wearing what they want, but when it happens, it happens and there's usually not time to think about protecting your head or face in an accident, you just come to on the ground, with the damage done. If it's thin and light you want though, the brand name Vespa comes to mind, not much protection, but it is thin and light.

I'm with you, brother. I don't support any sort of law mandating safety equipment, but my face is far too purdy to slide across asphalt.

was wearing a 3/4 open face Shoei when a car blew a stop sign and by the time I grabbed the brake i was into the rear passenger door about to take out the window...its been said you lead with your chin...luckily for me the top of the helmet led the way and went thru the window...lost consciousness for a short time but survived the crash and to look at the helmet one would never have known it was involed in an accident where it took the brunt of the impact... still wear a 3/4 open face 90% of the time...have a full face flip too that I use in winter riding or when I go on vacation and can pack it in the wifes car to have available if its raining when we leave for home.
