So, I finally decided to give another go at actually getting rid of this 15,000 BTU furnace I've been carrying around far too long. Just started feeling weak, lazy and a big slob. I decided I would try the Keto on for size, at least until I lost some weight and can gain some energy and start exercising again and just eating better. I'm sure my bike would like it.
So I'm at 5.5 weeks into this Keto diet and I'm down 20 pounds. I have a crapload more to go, but it seems like it is working well for me. I am hoping when I hit my goal weight, I can get off it and resume a normal diet, albeit, not a crappy lifestyle that I've been living. I need to be able to play with my grandkids when that time comes, or, at least be alive to see them.

anyone else try this keto plan before and what were your results? You all can help me stay on track this time. :wayhappy:

Metabolic keytosis is nothing new, ultra athletes use this method of converting fatty acids into glycogen for long term energy. It is only an effective method as long as you continue to severely restrict your intake of carbohydrates. If you "fall off the wagon", your body will go back to converting carbs into fat for stored energy, as your metabolism has been artificially restricted by the diet and your body thinks that you are starving yourself to death.

A balanced diet with moderate exercise is a more effective method of losing and maintaining the weight loss long term.

I agree Skrap. I'm the type who needs regular reinforcement and a fast and big result is what I need to keep me motivated. Once I hit or get close to my goal, I'll move back to a healthier and more sensible program.

I've been doing it for about a year, down over 40 lbs, it fell off quick at first then tapered off as I am not as strict with it now, the only thing I have cut out entirely is beer, which I do miss...
Currently I lose about 2-3 lbs a month so long as its going down I'm really not concerned how fast I'm losing.

I haven't had any cravings for carbs, other than for my kryptonite, which is ice cream. So long as I am not hungry, it doesn't bother me really.
The last time I had any alcohol was my Guiness on tap when I was in Ireland, before that, probably years, so that isn't a problem either. Unless I decide to get some Canadian whiskey :)

Some weeks I lose a bunch, others maybe a pound or two. As long as it keeps dropping, I'll continue until I get down below my goal, then I'll move back to a healthy diet and see. I have such a sucky metabolism, I think my spirit animal is a sloth.

I'm down about 29 pounds now, coming on 7 weeks. Went to Texas Road house for me bday last night, and I overdid it on the peanuts I guess. But it was nice. I got a FitBit Charge 3, so apparently, another good argument for riding a motorcycle is because they are healthy. I got up this morning, rode into work and apparently, that was good for 2500 steps. Woohoo. I almost met my goal :)

A little update.
My appendicitis helped me lose about 10 pounds from not eating and then being on a liquid diet for a few days after that. So, that seemed to be a metabolism reboot. I have been dropping the pounds at a good clip after that.
I have currently lost 55 pounds since April 8 when I started. I have about 45-55 more to go. Hoping that I can hit that before 2020.

congrats on sticking with it and finding success...don't focus too much on a timetable tho...as long as you continue to see the pounds shedding, let that be reward enough.

I've lost close to 40 pounds on strict KETO over 6 months (~205 LB ~ 165LB). Than I've relaxed the diet a bit, simultaneously adding 10-14 hours a week of hard exercise (2-3 hours of boxing workout at a time), riding " bicycle with 20" wheels everywhere (a sort of workout in itself). 165 LB at 6'3" - not an OZ of fat. The best shape and the best I've felt in my life! This lasted for about a year and a half, and then my daughter was born... my routine went out of the window, and I was back to ~210 LB in about 1 year.

If there is anything to take away from my experience, KETO is not a silver bullet, and will only help you reach a desired weight. To keep the weight where you want it, you would need to find a routine that works for you, reach a desired weight, exercise as much as you can, and watch what you eat. Be careful with cardio, but try to push yourself a little bit over your previous maximum.

Yes, I plan (hope) to drop a bit below my goal weight so that when I get off Keto and rebound like I know will happen, I have some wiggle room. I don't want to get to where I was again, I'm feeling too good. I just hope that I can eat sensibly and moderate exercise to maintain a healthy weight. Keto is the only thing I've done that I have been able to stick with and see consistent results. It has helped cure me of my dickiedoo disease already.
