I have a carbed vl800. been riding it regularly so its not been left standing.
Now at idle its not as smooth as it was, i can hear revs increase and drop small amounts which it didnt do before. Tried adjusting the idle and it still does it. Even after an 80 mile ride at a constant 80mph it still does it.
Any idea what it could be? Its definitely not the cable.
Thanks

In addition to what Viper said, check the choke cable. Mine was pulled out of the sleeve on the carb and it was causing some rough idling.

Taken the carb off as i need the pilot mix screw drilled out anyway.
Couldnt see any cracks or hoses laying around.
I did notice the large air intake rubber is quite dirty and sticky inside is this normal?
The air filter is 1000 miles old and still looks clean but the rubber between the airbox and carb is dirty and a bit wet inside. Just condensation?
Not cracked the float bowl yet as ive heard the screws are a nightmare so letting them soak in penetrating oil for a few hours
