Yup! Thanks for that. For the benefit of the great unwashed out there, she's in for a dyno run on Thursday. So, who'd like a small wager on what we can get out of her? 50bhp? 55bhp?

Let us all know what she runs, okay?

Stupid question for you Wiggo. How will the dyno test it without any wind?

Quigg
Stupid answer for you Quigg. Man stands at the front with a big fan. Actually, I have no idea, but the truth is I don't think there's any ram air effect below about 90mph anyway... We'll know later today.

OK, actually there is a man with a fan at the front, but that's mainly to stop it overheating. The dyno figures are back along with some quotes...

The bottom line, from the men who built the 422hp, 1600cc turbocharged and nitrous injected Hayabusa:

"That's offensively loud, isn't it?"

"We went for a 140 main, then 150, 160, 170, 180, 200 and then we started to drill out the 200. We run 250 mains on the turbo bikes. This thing is insane."

We have the needle on the last notch, with a bunch of washers under it."

"At full throttle, it's throwing a foot of flame out the back, and the baffles glow orange."

Peak power at the rear wheel is 50bhp, estimated 70bhp at the crank. Max torque is 59.87 ft.lbs at 3420 rpm.

There's a piccy on VOL, and I'll put the graph here, too if I can figure out how...

The torque curve is computed - can anyone tell me a definitive speed/rpm figure for 4th gear? (Doesn't matter what speed, it's just the ratio I need.) If I have that, I can give you an exact torque figure for the Volusia...

OK, found it. Max torque is 54.96 ft.lbs @ 3730rpm. At this point in 4th, your pulling 50mph dead, and I have 39 bhp at the back wheel.

Wiggo - 4th gear is 25:25 through a primary reduction of 71:42 and a final a drive ratio of 17:15 X 34:11.

Oh.. nevermind
Is that before or after you align the dilithium crystals?
:?

It depends on the thickness of the foil in your hat. Thin foil it's before, thick foil it's after. If the foil is medium thickness it makes no matter.

Well, the hypercharger is finally sorted out. It did need the float bowl pressurizing as the hypercharger flows so much air that the pressure in carb body rises above atmospheric, and that stalls the fuel flow through the main jet! FWIW, you a need to drill and tap inside the body of the Hypercharger, and fit a hose barb to bleed high pressure air from between the air filter and the butterflies at the front. This air is then taken through a hose to the carb vent (that normally vents fuel vapour from the float bowl). This equalises the pressure either side of the main jet and allows it to flow fuel correctly. Other than that, it's on a 200+ main jet, and runs sweet as. Mileage is no worse than normal, unless you run it in 'blowtorch mode'. See earlier for an explanation...

Thanks on the pressurising tip to Dan Landis from the CruiserCustomising site - the same trick is done on Vulcan 800's, Shadow 750's...

Yeah, that's one of my leading pet peeves. You'll be working on something, minding your own business, and all of a sudden you strip out the head of the screw you're working with. I HATE THAT!!!!!!! AAARRGGHH!!
