Hey
I'm thinking about installing a hypercharger kit to my 04 Volusia 800. Wondering if it's worth the trouble and expense? Will it improve horsepower and/or performance?
Thanks,
J

No, it's not. If you're lucky, you'll get a 2 HP increase in power and shave 0.01 seconds off of your 0-60. Save the money you were going to spend on that and use it for a down payment on a bigger bike if you want more power.

It will not improve the performance one bit. It will however, separate you from your hard earned money, and make your bike run like crap until you blindly fumble your way through retuning the carb to deal with the now over lean condition you created. If you absolutely want to go down this path, a hyper charger, carb kit, professional tune with an exhaust gas analyzer and new exhaust will net you a whopping 4hp.

I'm going to disagree with everyone else. I upgraded pipes, intake (wasn't a hypercharger, but can't remember the brand) and the carb with a stage III jet kit and saw a significant increase in performance.

Unfortunately, the "butt dyno" is not the highly calibrated instrument people like to think it is. What you are experiencing is called the placebo effect. You expect an improvement, so you feel an improvement, whether one exists or not. The actual gains have been well-documented over the years and the best you will see is a net gain of +4hp.

This makes me feel better, since it goes along with my observation that new windshield wipers have significantly boosted the performance of my 2009 Toyota Tundra...

I would recommend just swapping out the stock air filter for a K&N SU-8001, improves intake air flow a bit, cheaper that hypercharger kit, million mile limited warranty so no more filters to buy, just clean and add the oil. I use it on my 2006 C50, when I went to do my first filter change.
