Help!!! Surging and Bogging

177 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  SirxFaolchu
Hello Everyone,

I have an 06 Suzuki boulevard c50, fuel injected, has sat with occasional start up since 2014

I have been having issues where when I maintain low throttle is surges but when I use more throttle it bogs down almost as if it is gonna shut off but doesn't. I have replaced the plugs and injectors, cleaned the tank and strainer. I have checked the air filter and it is clean. After I replaced the injectors it ran okay with only a slight surge at higher speeds for about 3-400 miles before it started having the issue again. It has less than 10k miles. I am at my wits end over this. I am at a lost, any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated as not only do I love to ride but this is my only current mode of transportation. Please I need help.

Welcome from Kennesaw GA!

Anything not stock on the bike? Pipes? Air cleaner? If after changing the injectors it ran ok for a while, it seems like you might have been in the right area there.
everything is stock from what I can tell
When you said you "cleaned the tank" what did you do exactly? Any motorcycle that sat for extended periods of time with gasoline in the tank will be subject to rust and corrosion from accumulated water. The only fix is the completely remove the fuel pump and have the tank professionally cleaned and relined. The DIY kit you buy for $100 doesn't work very well at all.

Next, you need to completely break down and clean the fuel pump with solvent and compressed air. If that does not remove the contamination, then your last option is to replace the fuel pump. Some have had success with cheap aftermarket pumps bought off of Amazon, but it is again, hit or miss.

Low miles on an old bike should automatically be a red flag to.any buyer that there will be issues caused by improper storage.

I dont know if this will help.
The fuel injection is compensating for something.
Check to see if you have any disconnected vaccum hoses especially from the rear of the air filter housing.

I had a hard to start issue and a slight bog down problem on acceleration and it was a vaccum hose i forgot to reconnect. Also with a tachometer i found i was running high. Should be around 1000 rpms. Check hose # 2 on the petcock.

A buddy of mine helped me do it. We removed the fuel pump and filter before we did the vinegar sit and rinse with distilled and BBs for the tank. I will make some calls to see who near me does tanks. I bought the bike from a friends dad who can't ride anymore due to medical issues. He had it stored in an over hang and he generally took care of his stuff though there was signs of rust in the tank from sitting.

It starts right up and it will idle fine but the issues really show once it is in gear and i give it throttle.

I will double check the air houses when I get off work. However I don’t have a petcock. So I will just trace all the air houses to double check them.
