Hey everyone, I was wondering if someone knows if SAE 90 is the same as 75w 90? I want to change my gear oil an the owners manual states SAE90. So before I do anything I want to make sure I'm using the right stuff. Any help would be great thanx.

75w90 is actually superior to the 90 called for in the book. It is more than likely a synthetic that will reduce friction and heat in the drive. The "Dino" -non synthetic viscosity gear oil would be "80w90". That would also work with NO problems.

I use Royal Purple SAE 75-90 you don't change the gear oil very often so I don't mind paying a little more for the gear oil.

I like Royal Purple because the transfer case, tranny and axles of my Suzuki Samurai were made significantly quieter when I switched to Royal Purple SAE 75-90. :wayhappy:
