So to start I just want to say this is going to be tricky and lengthy so I apologize. I’ve got a 2004 Volusia vl800 and I’m having issues with fuel tank fitment. The rubber grommets and arms that secure the sides of my fuel tank don’t line up. One side slides in its spot but the other side will always be out a 1/4 inch too short no matter what side I slide in. The grommets are oem so I know they’re not to thin. The bike was dropped by the previous owner and dented the fuel tank which I have fixed and repainted so I figured the drop bent on of the arms in and you can clearly see that one arm is shorter than the other BUT there is no signs of the side arms being bent at all, could this be a manufacturer fault with one arm being too short? I’ve got a few ideas how to fab my own fix for it, just curious if anyone’s ever seen or ran into this problem on anything. Not just this bike specifically.
