Doing the DJ Mod on an 06 C50. I read the instructions several times but I have a question if anyone knows please.

I'm going to modify my current C50 drive shaft. Once the 3/16 is trimmed from the end, does it need to be rounded slightly like the original? See pic attached.

Also, I live in Western PA. I can cold call a machine shop I guess, but is there anyone around my area that has a recommendation for this, or is there someone I can send it to for machining that knows the deal?

Thanks

Welcome from Kennesaw GA!

I'm afraid I don't have the answers to your questions, but hang out a bit and someone who does will probably come along.

It is not the END that needs to be shortened, but the SHOULDER of the splines that needs to be cut back 3/16". Just cutting the end will still make it too long and cause the shaft to catastrophically bind.

They both need to be pushed back 3/16"

A chamfer on the end of the shaft to the bottom of the splines will help during installing.

Yeah, I know the shoulder needs shaved back 3/16 also. I don't have any questions about that.

But when the end gets trimmed off 3/16, the end of the shaft will be flat across. Do the edges need to be rounded off a bit like the original pic I posted? That's my question.

No they don't need to be rounded, but make sure your deburr them with a file after you add the chamfer.

It isn't rounded, it is chamfered. (Google is your friend if it is a new term) The flat corner around the entire circumference is cut off at a 45-deg angle. This allows for easier insertion without perfect alignment.

Okay, so I learned a new word, thank you!

So who adds the chamfered edge? The machine shop when they trim off the edge? Or me after I get it back with a file or something?

This wasn't mentioned in the DJ Mod instructions.

Have the machine shop do it when they cut the end back.
