good day - pretty new to this board.

i ride a VX 800 and i also want to get rid of the RPMS

i would love to apply the mod -

I am new to this site. I just bought an 06' C50T and my fiance and I love it. I have previous experience with an 82' Kawasaki 750 and a 98' Honda Valkyrie (fathers).

I absolutely love everything about this bike except one thing, the highway cruising RPM's. I commute 124 miles a day and love using the bike for the fun factor and fuel mileage. Most of my commute is between 60-75MPH, which is in the 3700-4700 RPM range.

I have been considering different methods to lower cruising RPM's, specifically a taller rear tire/rim or different rear drive gears.

My specific requirements are a happy medium at highway speeds. Here are my opinions on what I may need to do this:

1)optimum efficiency is typically at max torque RPM, which in this case is 3500 RPM according to Suzuki.
2)I would like to run 65MPH (average of different cruising speeds/most highway speed limits) at 3500 RPM.

In order to accomplish this, I would need:

A)a 30" tire, compared to 26" stock tire. This is a 4" difference, which is unlikely to fit under the stock rear fender.

B)Final drive reduction of 3.00, rather than the stock 3.503.

Now my question's to all of you is this: Are you familiar with any company that manufactures different rear differential gears? Also, is there a different Suzuki (or other brand) gear that may fit the c50's rear diff housing that is closer to a 3:1 ratio.

If there is not a gear already manufactured, I may be in contact with a local high-performance manufacturing facility to see if they can manufacture a 3:1 rear drive gear.

Thanks

are there any chances and means to go this way with a VX 800

No. A VX800 is completely different. None of the parts for the VL800/LS1500 will work.

UPDATE:

I will have a couple drives ready for beta testing in the next few weeks. The beta testers will be contacted or already have been contacted regarding this.

To keep the cost down, I have also decided to utilize the stock driveshaft, as it fits the c90 drive. Therefore, I will not have to machine/balance the c90 driveshaft and it will save everyone money.

As it stands now, the kit will come complete with detailed and pictured instructions, a driveshaft oil seal, axle bolt sleeve, a tube of gasket sealer and of course the modified c90 drive. Since you will be using the stock driveshaft, the buyer will have to switch the driveshaft from the c50 drive to c90 drive. This is a very simple procedure, 15 minutes or less if you are taking your time. For a first timer, the kit can be installed in less than two hours and that is working at a very slow pace, triple checking everything. With the detailed instructions, even an amateur wrencher can do this!

I am also going to release the preliminary price of the kit. I ask anyone that would buy this kit to please email so I know how many c90 drives to get from the supplier. This is very important because there are now only a limited number left!

The preliminary price will be $325+shipping.

Thanks!
Dan

Welcome!

Dan Hillis, who invented what's often called the DJ Mod, is no longer an active member here.

If you take a look in the Swap Meet sub-forum, you'll see offers of a DJ mod kit from time to time. There are some members who picked up the torch from Dan Hillis, and they now offer the kit. I would say that member Corey has them available most often, but so do others.

Good luck, and enjoy your new bike.

i installed the dj drive that i bought from Cory this weekend....every thing went rather well with the exception of oblonging the three mounting holes ...that was not fun...but i finally got it and had just a little trouble getting the u-joint to stand up so i could stab the shaft...but i finally got that done as well...i was really a breeze just swapping out one drive for the other...i did lube the shaft gears on both ends and the gear mounting for the wheel....i tried it out and gave it a 200 mile break-in run...no problems at all....i realized a 450 rpm drop in 5th gear and each 5mph only adds about 225 rpm....60mph and i am taching 3000 rpm....1st gear feels pretty normal to me...i don't have to slip the clutch any more than i did before....overall i am very very pleased with the gear swap...the bike has that great V-Twin thump that i have on my Vulcan and my Harley....i will update later when i get the improved miles per gallon ....live to ride/ride to live!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw little to no change in MPG when I installed my DJ Drive. It stayed a consistent average of 47mpg.... Also, the speedo is about 10% optimistic about your indicated speed. 60 indicated is really 55-56 mph.
