Question for Mr. Moderator :)
I remember once upon a time , you were going to "cut" your pipes to a shorter length . Did you ? If you did , how did it effect your performance ?
I am thinking about cutting my Cobra Slash Cut pipes right at the part where they "flange" out . Then inserting a baffle at that point .
What are your "views" on this mod , as far as performance goes ?
What if any , will be the pros and cons ?

OK junior (member)that is.... I never did shorten them because I found out that the length needs to be there for some reciculation (or backpessure) if you will. Are those slash cuts smaller than 2" on the front side? I think with a set power cones and a baffle in each one you'll be all set.
I just found out about some "tuners" that I didn't know exhisted too. They are adjustable flaps that go inside the pipes and you can "adjust" them to give you the Maximun performance out of straight pipes. They look like the dampers you have in a stove pipe and give resrtiction where needed and backpressure too. Once you find the "sweet spot" you tighten them down. Also what I did was insert some short pipes inside the straight pipes to give it a much deeper tone so my pipes are now double walled half way down. I cut the pipes to match the slash in the back. That would make it strong enough to put those things in and keep them secure. Let me get the name of the things and i'll get back to you

I'm running sportster powercones in it now . The adjustable set-up you speak of can be modified by getting that set-up from your local snowmobile dealer . They've had them for a few years for racing sleds .
I also read an artical in a HD rag , about welding a bolt to a large washer and using that to get the same effect . 8)

As long as you know about the ways to get the performance out of the pie the only other suggestion would be to make sure they are turned down a bit to reduce the possibility of a blowout.....In the eardrum that is!

Hello Gary,
Do you know of anyone who has put a "1400" engine in a Vol. A friend of mine was telling me about a guy doing that and what a bomb it was. I don't think it is possible with out extensive modification of the frame. I figured , if it could be done you would be the one do it(ha)
Just curious, not that I would do something like that,,ever...Tom :scoot:

I envy you "technical" guys! I can do stuff like install accessories and carb jet kits and such, but I don't have the guts to start cuttin' on my pipes!!!
Thankfully, I like mine the way they are, otherwise I'd be buggin' ya for advice all the time. LOL!

I've seen Blutos bike and he does good work too. Anything major on the drawing board for this winter Bluto? Or is it a hush-hush project?

I bought a 41 Caddy Hood Ornament (a naked lady w/wings)
That's going on the front fender . Along with some chrome trim . Saddlebags are getting "acorn" studs on the lids and some 10" fringes .
Going to finally wire up all the lights I've been planning w/seperate switches (lighted) . Put leather chaps on the forks w/studs .
re-paint ... Black of course !
