My dad has a 2002 Volusia, the bike idles excessively high and bogs down with the throttle.

Could the choke be stuck? I unscrewed the plunger but there isn't any difference.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

Has the bike sat for extended periods of time? Does the plunger for the choke move in and out freely? I would think you have a dirty carburetor problem.

it's been ran every day for months now, the carb could use a cleaning but I'm not sure it'd be this big of a problem.

You do know there is an idle adjustment on the left side under the fuel tank right?

Need to know more about the bike. How long has he had it? service history, stock pipes or aftermarket, stock air filter or not, has it been sitting before he acquired it? Things like that would help.
