Hi all, I’m having a problem starting my intruder , it’s a 2003 volusia vl800 intruder I charged battery but once I put battery back on it wouldn’t start, lights dim in and out when I’m trying to start it , being that battery is 6yrs old I bought a new one off Amazon, put it in and it’s doing the same lights dim in and out when trying to start it, could it be the starter? Any help is appreciated

Put a meter on the battery. With no load, it should read better than 12.4v. Under load, it should at no time dip below 11v. If either battery shows the above behavior, they either not charging or are defective.

Could be a short too. Double check the wires going into the headlight bucket and see if one is chaffed. You can wiggle them a bit and see if it makes a difference. Had that problem on my 2001.

Have you checked the battery cable connections, where they originate?
Also, check the cables for possible corrosion beneath the wire insulation.

also make sure the connections are on tight....these machines do vibrate alot and if you don't secure them tight enough you may lose the connection.
