Attention - Password and Security Update

7951 Views 75 Replies 28 Participants Last post by  Psyc0
Hello all,

Over the next few days we will be implementing some changes to our forum password strength and password expiration policies. To make sure you continue having the best experience possible on the community, we regularly monitor the site and the Internet to keep everyone's account information safe. We've recently become aware of a potential risk to some accounts coming from outside of this community. Just to be safe, we are implementing the following changes to improve security even further:

1) We are asking everyone to change their passwords (and will force a one time reset). Along with every user on the forum, new passwords will need to be more complex, and can't be simple words (sorry, you can't have "fluffy" as your password anymore!). Please use a password unique to this community. Reusing passwords can expose your account indirectly when other websites (Twitter, Linkedin, Badoo, etc) are compromised; and

2) Your passwords will expire on a 365 day basis. When you login on the 366th day, you will have to change it.

We'll also be sending out an email to users to let them know about the changes, in upcoming weeks.

Thanks all,

Helena

This is stupid - it'a a chat forum, not my investment site. You guys are requiring a more complex password than most any site I use - upper case, lower case, 10 characters and a symbol. So I have to write it down somewhere in order to remember - and what, I'll have to change it every three months? Yeah - there are Russian hackers that are just waiting to hack this site so they can post crap about Suzuki.

And no, I don't use the same password here that I use for my bank or broker - THAT would be stupid, too.

There comes a point where a product becomes too much of a hassle to use - this site is on the edge for me.

Okay, so - I waited to change my password until I was prompted to do so yesterday by a message on the forum (when I refreshed my view). So I complied. And then TODAY I received an email with a new ("safely" incoherent) password which forced me to change AGAIN - and of course I was not allowed to re-use my "old" (from yesterday) password.

We need a better process than this, guys!

I had to log back in again, using the old temp password that I had just CHANGED, and after 4 attempts got back in.

Time to get a new company to Administer these Forums.

I will be the contrarian voice here and will show some sympathy to the administers for having a no-win job to do.

I'm not the most computer literate, but waited for them to lock me out and provide a new temporary password. Did a simple copy and paste into the sign in page and then promptly reset my password to something I use of a couple of other non-important sites and that meets their new requirements. Back up and in business in less than 5 minutes.

Don't take your frustrations out on the online administrators. They are just doing what the site owners tell them to do and have to take the heat for it. So relax, take a breath and go take a nice long ride to help improve your mood. There are way too many other world issus to worry about, get worked up about and create 15 pages of comment on.

Ride safe and often.

Even Beezer hasn't baked enough brain cells to make it impossible to remember a new password
^^^ Although what is baked would be a rather LARGE cake.

I got my email and reset my pw. Easy-peesy.

If this is too difficult to understand then please feel free to fukoff.

Thank you.

Hey Jimysan, how's it going? Still riding the 1800?
Yes indeed. Are the inmates still running this asylum?
Finally! On the 15th attempt it accepted the pw they sent me. I tried it every which way, yes, even copy&paste from their email. Then, when I finally get in, I went to change that pw to one of my own choosing....ZZZZOOONNNKKK! It will not accept their new pw (the one that finally allowed me to get in). For get this.

We're all having fun :wayhappy:
I really think that password choice should be everyone's own decision and not dictated by anyone else as to what it is or how it is configured. As a member and a moderator on a various forums and facebook groups this is a first for me and I would not impose this on any of the groups I'm involved in. Just my opinion which I had to vent.
Thanks Clint

That's exactly what was happening to me :frown2:
VR Brothers and Sisters;

So sorry to hear that many of You are experiencing such difficulties setting and logging on, using new passwords.
It has been most unfortunate that We were the target of internet pirates in the first place, and now, the aftermath of dealing with this situation.

If anyone requires assistance, please contact any VR Staff member, and We will do Our very best to help You on a timely basis.

I received an email giving me my new computer generated password but I logged in without a hitch so I'm leaving well enough alone. My password is a password used only on the VR site. I guess if need be, I can change my password to whatever I want but I don't see the need yet.
