I Hit a snag. tearing down my engine... 2003 Volusia Intruder VL-800.
Page 50 of the engine disassembly manual says rotate generator until RT is centered. Simple enough. Then, after exposing the camshafts, it says to flatten the washers and remove the cam gears.Shows a lovely picture of the 2 bolts. Problem is, at the RT mark, my cams aren't aligned to allow removal of the bolts. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to rotate the engine until the bolts are exposed. Seems to defeat the idea of setting the time marks in the first place.
What am I missing?

There are two TDC on every rotation of the engine. Compression and exhaust stroke will rotate the cam shaft in different positions for the timing mark. Make sure you're on the right stroke before you go trying to disassemble anything.

I thought about that also. So, I bolted the rocker boxes back down and spun the engine to bring the mark up again. Same result. :( Bolts don't end up parallel. I can't figure this. Then I thought maybe the manual misprinted and needed to be on the FT mark, but that didn't line up either.
