So, I bought new tires to replace the ones on the bike which I believe were the originals. I’v gotten everything off up to the main axel bolt that goes through the wheel, drum, and frame. Iv got the nut and cotter pin off, but the bolt is suuuuper hard to turn, and doesn’t want to come out at all. The thread end looks kinda gummed up with white stuff (hardened) and I’m guessing the tire’s never been off the bike. Is there any trick to getting g it out other than the obvious penetrating oil, and taking off the pipes to pound it out with a punch?? Also can is there a measurement for wear on the drum shoes? Thanks

Update:

well I got it out, after a tooonn of hammering and penetrating oil. Looks like it’s never been out to me.

You shouldn't need to take the pipes off, and yes, sometimes you just have to drive the axle out.
