I have an 01 suzuki intruder vl800 & when I took it out for a ride about 30 minutes in it would start shutting off at stops & or would bog down when giving it gas
I did turn up the idle & it seemed to help the problem some
It did sit for about a year before i bought it
I'm wondering if the carb just needs cleaned or if it also needs rejet
I'm new to riding
Only has 4300 miles on the bike
The guy before me put cobra pipes on it

I would start with cleaning the carbs for sure, then do a rejet if that didn't work. I'd bet the cleaning will help.

You are riding a 21 year old motorcycle with barely any miles on the clock. That means it sat - A LOT.

In addition to pulling the tank and the carb to do a thorough cleaning, you'd best order new tires as it is very possible you're riding around on 21 year old rubber that can fail at any moment. Also, replace the front brake line and refill the brake system with fresh fluid as the old brake fluid is contaminated with atmospheric moisture. And no, throwing a can of "mechanic in a bottle" won't help you either.
