After eight months of saving, dreaming & planning, my well-kept secret is finally unleashed. After looking at my ride with the 7 degree Morton kit installed these last two seasons, I decided in July last year that it just wasn't the overall look I was going for. I wanted something longer, wider, and something that just screamed the word "ridiculous"!:biglaugh:
AME's 18 degree chopper kit now puts the front end at a massive 51 degrees, with 10" over stock length tubes. After studying pics of other people's choppers for the better part of a year, I wanted something a little bit bigger and longer than any other Volusia or C50 I've seen.
Ditching the studs this season, too. Wanted a one piece dual seat for the chopper, and decided to go with the Corbin. So far, it feels just as comfy as the Suzuki Gel seat, and it seems to sit a half inch lower. I feel it compliments the lines of the bobbed rear fender much better, as well.
Switched out the bars for taller ones, and went with shorter risers. These are Wild 1 brand 14" Chubby Apes and 1.5" Chubby Risers, with the ball-milled top clamp. Without a doubt, that awkward angle I had the last two seasons is finally dead and buried!
In the second week of October, my throttle cable snapped. Knowing I had to get another one, and the fact that the AME kit supplied a stainless steel brake cable, I had them all changed to match.
Where are the fender mouting tabs on the forks?!? What the heck is going on here?
And now, for the part I'm pretty disappointed about. Because the forks are further apart than stock with this kit, they supply a longer axle. Unfortunately, using the longer axle and spacers they provide sits the wheel completely off center. Carbon_One centered it using different spacers, but that makes the axle stick out... a lot! If the Bayou Classic Rally wasn't so close, I'd wait to have AME correct this problem. It'll stay this way for the remainder of the season, but I'll contact them tomorrow and ask them what gives.
Well, love it or hate it, it's mine! Ever since I can remember, I've always wanted a crazy chopper. And now, after all these years, I finally have one.:shades:
Lastly, I purchased a different set of pipes, so you may see more pictures soon. I REALLY like how the Hard Krome 3" Staggered exhaust looks with the longer front end, so it's difficult to say which I'll end up keeping.
