oldenslow A mesh jacket is about the best you can do for protection and ventilation, and on REALLY hot days even they can get to be too much. But if you want to maximize cooling, wear a moisture-wicking exercise shirt under the mesh jacket. You can get 'em at Walmart for about $7 apiece, and wearing one will increase your comfort level to an amazing degree. I did a 4-hour ride in 97 degree temps last week wearing one of these shirts under a canvas jacket. Yeah, I got hot at stop lights, but while rolling I was completely comfortable, even without the mesh. They work well as a base layer in cold weather, too.

RiderRon I live in Central AL where it gets in the high 90’s with 90-100% humidity.
I have 2 different types mesh jackets and a sport jacket.

Scorpion EXO mesh jacket that I got off motorcycle a few years ago on closeout. Armor is level III, flows well after I replaced the foam pad a couple of years ago with a Klim 3DO from cycle gear. I went down in that jacket going about 20-25mph and whenever I tell people they stare at the jacket and I have to point out the small area that looks different from the rest.
Xelement mesh but it’s mostly black and it kinda defeats the purpose of beating the heat. It’s ok but I’m not a big fan of Velcro sleeve closures. Scorpion has zippers.

The sport jacket is sort of like an armored shirt with soft armor covered at the critical points covered with hard plastic shells. I don’t think it would offer as much protection as a mesh jacket because the mesh covering your arms is thin, almost fishnet. I bought that when I was sport biking and wear it when it’s really hot and just want to ride but I try to avoid those days.

Above 95 with the humidity that high I just ride early mornings or at night! Lol

CGrazFL I have the Bilt mesh jacket, picked up on sale at cycle gear a couple years ago. Decent quality jacket for the $$$ and the air flows right through it. The armor that comes with it is pretty cheap, but the pads are easy enough to swap out if you have another jacket. I have an armored hoodie that I wear when it gets cooler, so I just switch the pads back and forth as I need them. The last few days here in FL it's been over 100 degrees! Stopping at the red light is brutal but once you get moving and get the air flow it's not too bad.

Menhir An armored mesh jacket works best for me. It's not a perfect solution, but it helps protect against road rash AND sunburn.

Mine is a First Gear jacket.

Whiskey I live in Atlanta. We hit 100+ with 90% humidity. I take the car. I have ridden on days like that before though and been fine in my Tourmaster Intake 2.0 jacket. Tourmaster makes quality stuff at a reasonable price.

Summer riding jacket

Live in West Texas where it's plenty hot. I have leather jackets and gear for winter riding but wonder what you guys are using for summer gear. Would like to wear something rather than just a long sleeve t-shirt. Just wondering what you guys are wearing out there that live in hot areas or do summer time riding in high-humidity areas also? Not looking for rain gear as we don't get much rain here plus I don't ride in the rain. Just looking for something with some air flow and protection.
