I have heard of people covering part of a k&n to reduce airflow to bring it back to about what a stick filter is. Does anyone have an idea of how much to cover and what kind of material to cover it with?

Here is a thread where a member covered one of his air holes on the filter housing and found improvement running a K&N.

Cause maybe I don't have a stock air filter.

They're easy enough to acquire without trying to reinvent the wheel.

I'd just get another stock filter. They also filter better than a K&N.

Not trying to be a smart a$$ but you should buy the oem and be done with it and no more headaches with trying to make it run right and not gaining anything when you finally do get it to run right, hope you understand im just trying to help you

The amount of "advice" on this forum is staggering. I wish I could get answers to the questions I ask. Thank you to the guy that gave me the link. The rest well.....

We're more of the KISS type of people here. I thought everyone handled it well. Now that you realized there's no need to reinvent the wheel and ordered a stock air filter we all think you are real smart too ;)

I already had ordered a new filter. The reason I was asking was to see if it was the reason for my problems not that I thought I had to explain myself. The reason I ask questions may not be apparent but I need the answer to them none the less. I just don't want people to give out useless (to me) advice when all I want us a straight answer. I wonder what the forum looks like when people ask about making their ride faster, maybe "get a gixxer"?

1 of the 2 will likely be too much, but you could start there and open it up a little with testing. The answer can vary with altitude, exhaust

If you want to keep the K&N the best answer would be to rejet the carb and get the slight performance bump

You don't have to get pissy about it. None of the answers were useless. They all made sense. People here try to help through the most logical means. Lose the attitude as we're having a discussion here. If you already know what you want to hear just talk to yourself. We're not mind readers. That link is here: www.wearemindreaderswhoknowwhatRh2racingwantstohea r.org

Hope this helps :)

Well, there are problems with that. Cover up part of the intake and then you start to mess with the temperatures of air intake, that can really mess up the works. Unfortunately, power enhancement, or really in the case of a small cruiser, enhancing throttle response, is not a bolt on affair. If you change filters you MUST remap or rejet. I recommend you do the exhaust at the same time.

We would all like changing air cleaners to actually make a difference. So would K&N, who tend to oversell their product. All it does is muck with the fuel air mix... And mucking with the fuel air mix wont get you anything but frustrated unless you swap out the exhaust.

I wish there was a better answer, and for the record, I prefer the R1 or the S1000RR to the gixxer....

Where are people getting this from? I NEVER SAID I WANT MORE POWER. hope that is clear enough. I bought the bike with a k&n. I asked questions because I didn't want to throw away $50 on a filter if it wasn't the problem. So now I bought a $50 filter. I guess I should just start answering my own questions. For those that gave real advice I thank you. For the others now I know who to avoid when I need help.

We love the beez, so much he became a site moderator. If you ever meet him, I encourage you to go on a Beezer walk with him and you both will be relaxed when you get back

:smoking:

As far as advice, most of it is like an opinion and you know what they say about those.....

This is the kind of answer you get when asking a simple question. :biglaugh:

Some things you can't make up and some things you just can't fix. Stupid is one of them. :wink2:

It's almost time to say bye bye Rh2racing. With a name like that someone would think you have all the mechanical answers. Why are you asking us? What did you race? Big wheels? I'm thinking you're a kid who wants to be a big man. How old are you?

I don't mean 17 posts on the thread - I mean the OP has a total of 17 posts and in those has insulted a moderator and told the bulk of people trying to help him to F*** off.

I'm going for therapy. I've been diagnosed. I can see it now:

Hi, my name's beezer and I'm considered by someone on the internet to be a passive aggressive idiot because I try to explain things and help people in a logical manner and it upsets them.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Stay extra safe on the road as you'll most likely be riding alone with a chip that big on your shoulder.
