I'm hoping it's something like that in my dad's case.

Man I hate reading stuff like this!

Seems we hit an age, when so many around us all of a sudden start having health issues. Five in my family gone, in less than three years. If it isn't family, then it will be friends. Unfortunately, it's the sad reality/eventuality.

On the positive side, many rebound, and I sincerely hope this will be the case for your family......

Although growing up is optional, unfortunately, growing old isn't. I guess it's better than the alternative though.

Sorry for the rough times. We are hitting that period of our lives too, watching over the parents and seeing what happens with the parents of our friends. Difficult stages of life. Hang in there!

Plan for tomorrow and live for today.

UPDATE:

My father-in-law is being discharged from the hospital tomorrow and going to some sort of a recovery home near our house. That's good. First, he's being released so he's healing well. Second, he'll be close to our house so we can visit him easily and my mother-in-law can stop sleeping on a couch in a hospital room.

My dad saw the doctor yesterday and the diagnosis doesn't sound good. Apparently, he has a tumor growing in his abdomen that has grown to the point that it is pinching off the small intestines right at the point where it connects to the stomach. They are scheduling him for surgery on Monday, but they aren't looking to remove the tumor, rather they are planning to reroute the small intestines around it.

They don't think they can cut the tumor out and the oncologist doesn't think chemo is going to be an option. They will discuss radiation, but they are saying that immunotherapy will likely be the treatment option that is taken. This doesn't give me a lot of confidence.

Yup, it's definitely going to be some rough times ahead.
