09 & up Seat Fitment

I’m looking at buying a ‘09 and up C50T aftermarket seat. I have an ‘02 Volusia VL800. The seller says I’ll need the original seat bracket from the original C50T seat. My question is will this seat fit my Volusia? I checked out some pics of both seats and they look very much the same. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
P. S. Love this site! 👍😎

From what I understand the 09 model year changed the seat mounting quite a bit and items that will fit the 09 will not fit older models. If you got to most aftermarket seat web sites you'll see different seats for older than 09 vs 09 and up.

I had a OEM Gel seat for my 05 C50. I later traded to a 09 C50 and I was able to fit the old seat to the new bike by making a new bracket for the back of the seat. There was more of a gap at the front at the tank than I liked and I made a new slightly longer bracket to make it work. The 09 + up Pillion uses a different bracket the 08 and down. I had the old series pillion bracket and my slightly longer home made bracket to make it work. Old model seats on the newer bike and you wouldn't have known to look that I had the wrong seats on the bike. It sounds like you want to go the other way putting a new series seat on an older bike. You might be able to do it. Ideally if you know someone near you with a new series 09 + up you could try the seat to see what you would have to do to adapt it. It might be simply elongating the holes in the rider seat bracket or swapping the old bracket to the newer seat. The seats are not radically different in my opinion. My butt didn't like either series seat for longer rides. The OEM Gel was an improvement but not huge.
