Today Was My Day

I dropped her. I dropped my motorcycle. More specifically, I had an ultra low speed low side. Like all but stopped, planning to stop, in order to figure the best path into a parking spot. We were in a grass field. I misjudge or simply misplaced my right foot just as we were ceasing all forward motion, and the bike leaned farther than I could hold on grass. My right foot went under the saddlebag mounts and guards, taking the majority of the weight of the bike, myself, and to my horror in the moment, my wife.

My wife was free of the bike, and just scratched from the post of my backrest. I pulled myself from under the bike and suddenly there was a crowd of people there to help. Event staff from the festival were very well meaning, but they nearly rolled the bike completely over when trying to upright it. The biker that stopped to help was great, but not a fan of a kickstand with out a helper wing to catch. The EMS at the festival were great, but I was far more hurt in my pride than anywhere else.

Or so I thought.

My wife and I walked around the festival for a little while, but I was unable to walk the pain off. So we called our son in law to come and ferry the bike home, and my parents, who live nearby to take me to the Medical Express place.

In retrospect, walking on a fractured ankle for an hour or so at a fairground probably was not one my better decisions, but in my defense, even now after seeing the x-ray, the mildness of the pain makes it hard to believe it happened.

The examining Dr. credited my boots for the mildness of the fracture and the pain.

On a sunny morning I drop my bike less than a week after getting caught in a rainstorm for twenty miles, where I had absolutely zero issues. I think that is irony, or maybe just unfortunate.

Anyway, I am off to elevate my ankle, and wait until I see the orthopedist tomorrow morning.

PS; At a quick glance there is no damage to the bike, my ankle took most of the impact to the ground.:biglaugh:

Update:

I am cleared to return to work on Dec. 9.

I have been tinkering in small ways around the house, and learned last week that installing fence and working on antique two wheel tractors on the same day is a little too much. The fence needed done, the tractor has been sitting for over a year.

I am bored.

Since nothing in life can go smooth for me, although I am cleared to return to my job, I will legally be unable to. I am a truck driver, and my physical expires before I am medically cleared to return. I can not pass my DOT physical while being under medical leave for my job.

In PA, when my physical expires, my license converts to a non CDL automatically. I have a certain time frame to get my physical and reinstate my CDL, but the whole dealing with the DMV thing is just such a pain, I actually considered just changing careers for a few moments.

I have also decided that the first dry day this week, I need to ride. Maybe just an around the country block type ride, a few miles to get the blood pumping again. Maybe further, since I don't have to go to work until at least Dec 11.

On the whole though, getting up in the mornings, sitting with the dogs and drinking coffee for a few hours each day has been pretty nice though.

Glad you're healing. A good ride will serve the spirit well, maybe enough to deal with the DMV.
I know the problems with your license. I dealt with it before. Tore some muscles in my shoulder and the physical expired. Here in Indiana, you have 60 days to get released and renew it before you have to recertify for your CDL.

1. Welcome to the DROP club......

2. Glad to hear you're healing......

3. CDL's can be a real pain....when I retired I dropped my med card and retained the CDL on an intra-state level (I can operate trucks with-in the State-SD, and I occasionally drive for my nephew).

4. Now the real bad news.....you will most likely drop it again in the future.

5. Go for that ride and enjoy (I wish I could but too much snow on the ground).

It's Christmas Eve, right around 40 degrees Fahrenheit, and we just got back from a relatively short ride to our current favorite wing spot.

We have an unofficial policy of a ride for wings or BBQ if it is dry out, regardless the temp, on Christmas Eve, and I couldn't break it.

The first two up ride since the mishap, and the first ride of more than two miles as well. The bike and the ankle both performed well.

All the DMV stuff worked out surprisingly easy, and I have been back at work as much as my company has work for me.
