Bought my bike in November after taking my MSF class. '06 Boulevard M50. On Feb 22 had a deer come out of nowhere and plow into me. Was throttling from 3rd to 4th so going approx 30 mph. Next thing I know I'm sliding on the road and picking my @ss up. Never saw it again only 20 hairs in the fork. Lost the rear brake pedal and dinged up my front brake lever, front right turn signal and scraped the length of the upper exhaust pipe :frown2:. As for me was wearing full coverage helmet, still concussed but no sensitivities etc after I got up. Was not wearing protective pants/chaps so my worst injury was my right knee badly scraped. Nothing broken and minimal soreness so... I am purchasing chaps as well as some tech jeans before my next ride. Thanks for this forum to rehash and get feedback. Wish I had seen this forum earlier. Could have saved me some skin. All said. Bike is bake to working condition and can't wait to get out there.

There are two types of riders...Those who have fallen and those who haven't...yet. You have moved to the fallen category and survived to tell the tail. Glad to see that you survived and that the bike damage was manageable. You have learned first hand the meaning of ATGATT and the value of a full-face helmet. You might want to look into something like the Bohn underarmour and combine them with something like Daluth Firehose Jeans. The combo works for me, since I don't fit most tech jeans.

Truer words have not been spoken. In my family, I have wrecked twice on a motorcycle. My wife once and my daughter twice in a year. All three of us walked away from very severe wrecks with only minor injuries thanks to ATGATT. I can tell you from experience that the Duluth Trading Company Firehose Jeans WILL stand up to a crash on the interstate and protect your skin underneath. My daughter still wears the pair she had on last summer when she wrecked on I 79 in West Virginia. There is a dime sized hole in the one knee. They are otherwise undamaged.

Snell rated helmets, CE armored jackets, heavy duty jeans or riding pants, over the ankle boots and gloves. All The Gear, All The Time.

Glad you're okay & bike is back in working order. You didn't mention, but you did get a new helmet, right ?

If your pants will hold them CE armor in the knees.
I wear bohn armored pants under my Kevlar jeans.
I’m in the been down club and it sucks but it would have been much worse without my gear.
I’d add steel toe boots to the list, I didn’t have mine on and spent 13 months rehabbing strained ligaments in my right toe.
I almost put on my half helmet before that ride and that would have been a huge mistake because my chin was the first thing to hit the ground.

While I understand the attraction of half and 3/4 helmets, for that feeling of wind and freedom, I just can't get past the studies and statistics on head injuries and their location. Anyone that reads them, and is smart will see the enormous benefits of a full-faced helmet. I understand they aren't for everyone, but then again, I'm not into Russian Roulette either.

Also, if you wear a helmet, you need to put the following label on both sides of it. It may prevent you from being paralyzed. (Available on amazon.com)
CAUTION IF RIDER IS INJURED DO NOT REMOVE HELMET
