My daughter. Again.......

I am thinking that the universe is trying to tell me something.

My daughter had just finished her internship in South Carolina and was moving back home to get her feet on the ground to figure out what is next after college. My wife drove down on Friday to haul her stuff back, so she could ride her bike home.

The first 600 miles of the return trip were uneventful, save for the horrible hotel that I booked them into last night. Then, this afternoon about 1550, I got a text from my son "mom and Jo were both in an accident. Nobody is hurt". That's it. No other info.

Of course I panic. They're god knows where, I have no idea what condition either vehicle is in, full on papa bear mode.

The particulars include heavy rain and too many drivers, not paying attention to speed and traffic ahead..... Evidently, a driver stopped short in front of my wife, who in turn stopped short in front of my daughter. Wife hit the car in front, daughter plowed into the back of my brand new Edge.

Thankfully, she is an ATGATT rider and walked away from her SECOND major wreck on the interstate in 9 moths. But my wife is more than a little shaken. The bike is totaled. Front forks are bent in, handlebars tacoed, and the front wheel has an interesting dent. It will be interesting to see how the insurance company handles this, as my dearest spouse was cited for causing the event....

Thankfully, all are safe and arrived home well. Though my poor daughter is without anything to drive or ride, unless my insurance allows me to add her back in, even though she is emancipated and graduated from college.

A long time ago, I was told, it is not a matter of IF you will go down, only WHEN and you'd better be prepared for it. Daughter and I are 2 for 2 in major wrecks on the interstate and walking away without a scratch... Thanks to the gear we wear...

Oh man, Sorry to hear about this accident (not sure it was a wreck, other than vehicles being too close for the conditions but I know sometimes it's impossible to avoid). I am sooo glad both of your ladies are O.K. Is your daughter on her own insurance policy? I guess if it is two different policies, the insurance company pays up as needed.

What did your daughter major in?

Wearing the gear is a major pain but well worth it when that one (or two or three or whatever) time happens. I remember your daughter wasn't too spooked after the last wreck. Let us know her mental state after this one.

Plan for tomorrow and live for today.

She has her own policy, but since my wife was at fault, our insurance will pay.

She graduated from Pittsburgh Technical College with a degree in Culinary/Restaurant management.

Her biggest regret right now was not bringing her bike in for its 3,000 maintenance interval. She rode all over the south east during her 5 months down there and loved every minute of it. Her gear is in good condition considering. This is an unpaid endorsement for Duluth Trading Co. firehose work pants, but she slid down I79 for a long way and only has a minor abrasion on one knee.

She had been planning on following the Ren Fest circuit and working in the commissary, riding her motorcycle between festivals. She's kind of bummed that this event may end up with her getting a car instead...

Glad to hear everyone is ok but sucks to hear about the recks most of the time insurance companies don’t care if they are dependents or spouses just drivers license status and that they have been added or more importantly not in the will not be driving my vehicles list

Damn man! I'm certainly glad to hear your daughter is ok. Give her and your wife a hug from us. Insurance will take care of the vehicles, that's what it's there for.

I sure hope the other 7 of your nine lives turn out as well or better.

Glad that it is the hardware that gets replaced. The soft stuff doesn’t replace well at all!!
