welp...dropped the bike today....first time ever

So yesterday I spent the better part of the day using PBBalster to remove the black plastic dip I did on my tank. got it all cleaned off, cleaned the whole bike top to bottom, polished all the chrome, conditioned my seat, made all my black rubber shinny. road it for 2 hours.

Woke up this morning to this 80+* day here in SE PA (philly kinda) & told the wife Id be takin the bike in to work today

I get on the bike, im driving & avoiding all the A**holes in the morning putting their makeup on, talking on the phone etc..

then I get to a light..Im the 4th car, I have 1.5/2 car lengths infront of me before the car in front of me (not a busy area)

Light turns green everyone accelerates, car 1 threw the light
car 2 threw the light,

car 3 threw,,,,,WAIT WTF WHY DID YOU SLAM ON YOUR BREAKS halfway through & THEN PUT Left turn signal on?.

(This is a 2 lane rd, 2 lanes eastbound, 2 lanes west...all turns must be made from inner lanes (pretty sure everyone who drives knows this (except people from jersey , since you guys cant make lefts & have to take jug handles)

We were in the right lane,,,,,,NOT The inner/turning lane mind you

So i sort of pannic'd a bit, I hit my foot break (maybe a tad bit to hard) bike fish tailed left, caught it...and then it went right, then left & down she went. I was only doing like 5-10mph, but judging from the oil slick/gas covered hump that is the middle of the road...i think that had something to do with it

I am ok not even a scratch, bike ehh...got a nice dent in the tank by the filler hole since the handle bar/ignition switch hit the tank. The right floor board took the most of the impact. The funny/scary thing is, the front bolt for the floor board "popped" out of its hole, so no rear brake at the moment.

looking at the bolt & the hole, it appears the bolt was only in about 2-3 threads..which makes me wonder why they didnt use a longer bolt

So I am going to try to coax this dent out,

Else I pull the tank, strip the area & fill it with some lead filler (well not lead, but a lead like body filler) & then paint it back up...

OR

I find a good not dinged tank for under $100

Dangerous world. Cant assume cars are going to do proper thing. Still you did better than me. I grabbed too much front brake and learned how to fly...

Glad to hear you're ok!

Sorry to hear about this.
Glad you came through ok.
Hopefully you will find a reasonable priced tank.....that is quite a large dent to fill.
Good luck!

Sorry to hear of your misfortune...........it's not "if" it's "when". You can do everything right and still do a bad dismount from a bike. It happens...............

glad you're ok...keep an eye on ebay...

the_snake1201 07-02-2018 05:44 PM

Don't sweat it. My only unintentional dismounts have come while at a complete stop, and I plan on doing my best to keep it that way.

Sorry to hear this but Im glad you're alright. Bikes and parts can be replaced, you can't.

Just courios, when you said you made your tires shiny, did you realize that if that cleaner gets to low, it's like riding on ice. Could this have possibly contributed? Maybe.

Glad you're okay !

That's almost as bad as deciding to go for the yellow light, and the guy in front of you chickens out!

Glad you're alright.
