Horrible accident to be sure, but what do you want? Would you prefer that they throw a 64 year old woman in jail for the rest of her life? Sometimes an accident is just an accident.

The rest of her life? No I don't want to see that with the situation being what it is, but there should definitely be something more than just a damn slap on the wrist. Hopefully the Man's family can pursue a wrongful death civil suit, it's crazy to think that if she had used a gun to kill him she would be in jail but because she used her minivan it's a slap on the wrist and maybe not even that. Personally I think she should be charged with reckless vehicular homicide or negligent homicide at the very least! The sentencing doesn't have to be for the rest of her life but there should be some consequence for her actions, she was apparently too fkn impatient and ignorant causing another innocent life to be lost. How much basic common sense does it take to remember your road rules. For fck sake get your eyes checked so you can see clearly measure distance and speed properly, wear your fkn glasses, put your phones down stop scratching yourself, putting your makeup on checking yourself in the mirror or somebody else out. Put your hands on the wheel your brain in gear your fkn eyes on the road drive between the lines obey traffic signals. If ya havent got the common sense or ability enough to follow those simple instructions get off the fkn road, you dont have the right to hold a driver's license. Catch the bus, train, pushbike, walk,or stay home but dont go on the road and not take responsibility for your vehicle and the way you operate it!! Simple !! And if it's not simple then you dont have the ability to drive. The problem is that whether on the phone or not most people don't care. It's all about there destination an themselves. There's no respect for any one any more. Accidents can be avoided if people would just start giving a damn about there life an others. People don't follow the road laws any more/ they run red lights, stop signs, fail to yield, don't look before changing lanes, an the most important is not paying attention cause their to damn busy texting or running their fkn c#ck sucker. It's against the law in most states now to text an drive, the problem is there's not enough cops an the penalty isn't great enough to make people stop. If the penalty was 10 or more years in prison or $5000.00 or more or ur privileged to drive taken away I bet people would stop. I see people all the time on the damn phone, one day it will catch up to them especially if they wreck into me an I survive an get up off the ground or get out my truck cause I'm gonna open up a big can of whoop the fk out ur ass. Put ur phones down people u might not care about ur life an families but I care about mine.
Rant over, you can go back to your regularly scheduled programming now.

I agree with you on most all of that, but in this specific instance we don't know everything. First, I don't know the laws in that state, but in a lot of states there is no law requiring you to stop for a funeral procession, we just do it out of respect and courtesy. Don't tell the kids that, but it's true.

Second, if he was taking up the rear it's entirely possible he got behind a bit and was catching up, this the statement that she thought the procession was over.

They state in the story that she broke no laws. In order to charge her with negligent homicide or vehicular manslaughter you would have to prove that she did something she wasn't supposed to and that caused the accident. It sounds to me that she did nothing wrong. In fact, depending on the laws of the state, it's entirely possible that the rider technically ran a red light.

Like I said, sometimes an accident is just an accident.

Probably like most non motorcycle riders on 4 or more wheels.. Looking for cars not bikes.. We just have to be extra vigilant while out on the road.. I almost pulled out in front of a car yesterday but I was paying attention and so was she and she was on the phone.. I started to pull out because the car in front of her stopped so I assumed there was a stop sign but there wasn't.
I grabbed all the front brake and was able to save eating concrete and she dropped her phone and swerved left while braking slightly. Mistakes happen and we have to acknowledge that. That's part of the risk of riding, we are very exposed soft tissue to lots of metal that does bad things to other metal all the time.
I'm sure the 2 year old in the back seat was being the model child (yeah right) so that may have been a contributing factor as well.
I just pray for both families involved.

It said the light was Green for the driver of the mini van. It sounds like she did nothing wrong. Last time I checked, green has the right of way

Pure conjecture here - I've ridden with Patriot guard, at least here in Cali they do not get permits and tell everyone at the start when they block intersections it's at your own risk. That said, as the road captain he was most likely a blocker and was stationary in the intersection or was heading out to catch up to the pack. Either way he was running a red light.

Tragedy for sure, but not a crime.

Sounds like the procession was not police escorted? The light was green for the driver. She may have assumed lane was clear for her to proceed and or the rider was lagging behind the procession. Rider went through a red light? He didn't have the right of way even though the circumstances of the procession may have implied it. Horrible tragedy all the way around. Driver will live her days knowing she caused an accidental death. Rider only had a slight scenario to consider the driver would cross the lane of his path.
