MARIETTA, Ga. -- Two people were killed Thursday night when a high-speed chase ended with an out-of-control motorcycle roaring through a parking lot, bouncing off a parked van and crashing through the front of a Cobb County business.

The motorcyclists were part of a large group of bikers Georgia State troopers tried to stop for speeding on I-75 at Northside Dr. in Atlanta. They refused to pull over and led police on a chase up the interstate into Cobb County.

On Canton Rd. one of the riders, who was carrying a passenger, lost control of his bike, hit a curb and went flying off the road. Careening through a strip mall parking lot, he hit the parked van, leaving a huge dent in the side. The bike and the two victims continued until they crashed through a plate-glass window of a store.

The rider and the passenger were both killed.

Pieces of the high performance sports bike were scattered across the parking lot.

Police have not released the names of the victims.

Sad, but hard to feel sympathetic on this one. It was their own damn fault.

Sorry, I can't feel sorry for them either. Their families maybe, for losing their loved ones to a stupid act of bravado.

Too bad, but sometimes you reap what you sow. Hard to feel sympathy for this one.

Wonder what the passenger was thinking.

If a rider willfully rides with criminal neglect like this and a passenger is killed, is the operator (dead or alive) guilty of manslaughter\murder?

It's a shame but plain stupidity at work.
