Slipping Clutch

Changed my oil a couple weeks ago and now have a slipping clutch. I did change brands of oil from Castrol 4T to Valvoline 4 Stroke ATV oil. Should have stuck with the Castrol I guess.

Here's what I used

Valvoline ATV Oil

Says it's OK for Wet clutch.

It's been a while since I adjusted the clutch, will try that this evening.

Any other suggestions?

I would just change the oil back to Castrol.

The change shouldn't have caused the slippage. It's probably more likely to be time for a full adjustment. There's a sticky on doing a complete clutch adjustment.

I can head East or West, it doesn't matter as long as it's on 2 wheels.

Did the adjustment last night. No change.

Last time I had to adjust the clutch, I could tell a difference. That was over 6 years and 20k miles ago.

I guess it's time to shop for a clutch rebuild kit.

On the gasket, which one do I need?

11482-41F00

or

11482-44110

Is the latter maybe a replacement (newer) part number?

Thanks,

Jody

Nevermind, it's the first one. Found it on eBay for 10.50 shipped.

I've found numerous "wet clutch" oils that caused clutch slippage almost immediately, especially on bikes that have a pretty marginal clutch to start with. The couple times I tried Mobil 1 motorcycle oil it has universally caused the clutch to feel mushy and usually slip in top gear. On my Vmax it screwed up the one way starter clutch, about half the time it'd just freewheel. Switched back to rotella and the problem vanished.

I found on my 05 the clutch was a little mushy and I could make it slip flooring it in top gear even after adjusting it. The previous owner made a big stink about how he only ever used mobil 1. Hmmm. Drained that out put conventional Rotella in, and whaddya know the clutch slippage went away, and it's been about 10k miles since and no signs of it returning. Bike has about 25k on it now.
