This is a good point.

I just changed my rear tire and when I got everything back together, no rear brakes.

I had to adjust the adjuster a good deal more than I thought I would, but after adjusting it, the brakes work great now. I'm pretty sure I "adjusted" it out, while moving the brake rod out of the way and re-positioning it while getting things removed and back into place.

Spins freely by hand....makes me wonder if you are trying to adjust the brakes while the bike is jacked up???

You cannot adjust the brakes while the bike is up on a jack, when you lower the bike the brakes are going to be way too tight and will burn up. With the bike on a jack it releases the tension on the rear brake rod.

Lower the bike to the ground and readjust the brakes.

I hate stories without an ending, so I'm left to guess that:

A. He fixed it, and got so excited that he forgot to update.
B. He gave up and sold the bike.
C. He didn't get it fixed, and went out for a ride anyway.

D: Work picked up, he's been out of the house for 12-16 hours a day, and hasn't had the time to do much else. (And I still don't know how to use my new phone - blush)

I'm going out to the garage in a few minutes to sort things out, and I wanted to check in first and see if there were any suggestions. Will post again in a bit.

Maybe he just broke his brakes and he's too broke to take a break to get his broke brakes fixed?
