Hello fellow riders...
I lost my master key to my 04 Volusia...I called the dealership and they had told me that the Serial # for the key is hidden somewhere on the bike. Does anyone in V.R. know where that code is...Thank in advance...

If you cant get the key code............

and you do end up calling a locksmith.. tell him that the National Locksmith magazine had a write up with pics and everything for changing the key pins... remember to get all the cylinders changed (ignition, tool box, helmet lock and the gas cap)...

You should be able to find a reputable locksmith at www.aloa.org (Associated Locksmiths of America). NOT all locksmiths in the yellow pages are reputable.

This is the undustry I am in, and I know there have been lots of scams with fake/real locksmiths overcharging... that is why I am adding the part about aloa.org another might be www.lockradio.com .

Contact a locksmith and tell him these #'s will all work..

Ilco Key # X241 (SUZ18)
or
Silca Sz14RAP
or
Curtis SU18

Reference and instructions for access and changing the pins are in the March 2005 and Sept 2005 National Locksmith Magazine

Look in your owner's manual. There's a blank spot in there that it specificially tells you to write down your key code in case you lose your keys. I'm sure you wrote it down didn't you?...Yeah...Me neither. Here's what I did:

Write down the code off the helmet lock. Take it (code) to the locksmith. Wait 5 minutes for key...go ride!

I know...the helmet lock is hidden behind the saddlebag. It's still easier than trying to get the code off the ignition. It's the only # he needs.

I got only one key when I bought my '01 from an individual. I took the code to my stealer, who made another one from the code for $7. I'm sure that a locksmith will not charge any more than that. And while you are there, I'd recommend having a spare made up. I always carry a spare key if I am going to be any significant distance from home.

I have a spare key for my Nomad, but reading this thread makes me want to go get another one made, "just in case".

The helmet lock is not he same as the ignition. It only uses part of the key.

Get an extra one and tape it inside your headlight bucket (or under the right side cover on your Nomad) Then all you'll need if you are out and lose your keys is a phillips screwdriver.

Or you can zip tie tie it somewhere that is hidden. I had one made as soon as I got the bike. This way I have three keys. Everyday. Spare that I carry and one at home.

I gave dealer model / year and Serial number (VIN #) ... they said that blank they didn't have so had to get one ..... told them get 3 ..... and 2 days later they had the blank and made the key(s). When I travel ... I keep one in my left pocket and one in my right pocket. Yep, one day dropped on accidently, slid somewhere down between the cylinders... never ever been seen since,... imagine it jiggled from where it was when hiding and fell off along the way. But , had a key to use .... went straight to a dealer there and they made me another one. LOL

good a time as any to remind everyone stop procrastinating and get a spare made before its too late...and ride the mc to the locksmith to make sure they cut the new key right. You can save yourself a lot of aggravation for $3.

Not bike related but I bought a 1989 Bronco 2 that only had the ignition key....no door/rear hatch key. I was working on the rear hatch so I just pulled the lock assembly and took it to the smith. Half an hour and $22 bucks and I had a door key and a set of spare keys.

I am now in the same boat. Got a quote for $335 to make a new key. Plus $55 to come to my house. I've already got the ignition cylinder pulled. Would be happy to send it to someone that would just do it. Can you share the contact info of your locksmith?
when i got my bike the person that had been storing i for me had lost it I had to call a lock smith to come out and he had to use his tools to be able to get the lock unlock and then he keyed it and made me 2 new ones..I had ask him for the numbers for it but he told me that he
couldnt come up with one . and that cost me 135 dollars
