Scala G9 owner, here. Mike and I have gone through 2 generations of Scalas; they're a PITA to get paired up, but do well enough once they're set.

However, a friend of mine, member PBryon, and his brother threw for the PacTalk version of the Scalas, and I asked for a review, since PBryon also was a G9 owner. He says that the PacTalk version is a big step forward in ease of use. Claims that the PacTalk devices will pair up in a trice, and will re-pair seamlessly if one rider falls out of range and then returns.

^^ What she said. I find the new PackTalk to work really well with the mesh connection. As with all of these, it takes a bit to get them to hook up to one another, but once they do, it's a breeze. CardoScala just hooked up with JBL for audio now too. So the audio side of things is supposed to be much better now, though I never really had many complaints.

On my old Cardo system, I was able to get 4 people together and talking for one long multi-day trip. It was wonderful in helping the 400+ mile days go by.

I have a Sena 20S Dual pack that only one has been installed and used to test out. It's been about 50 miles... Works great and paired fine with my Samsung S6 and my Zumo 650 GPS.
Sold bike so I don't need it.

It's still installed in a large Shark modular helmet.

I'll probably take some pics and list it for sale.

Sena smh5 fm or s10 r if solo. I strongly recommend s20 for 2-8 riders (tho I have only done group of four).

Cardio Packtalk is also highly reviewed... and apparently has an edge for motorcycle groups (8+?) due to mesh networking auto-reconnect and mesh relay from front rider through others in group to back rider.

Note: these options are spendy at ~USD$200+ per comm unit. Spend less and you will have much more frustration connecting and using your comms... especially if you join a group or ride with others in the future.

Search YouTube for Ryan FortNine comm. excellent review (and my favorite motorcycle+gear reviewer by far).
